Chicago Police Fatally Shoot Man Suspected of Shooting Pregnant Woman
UPDATED: The woman suffered gunshot wounds to abdomen and is listed in serious condition at an area hospital.

A man suspected of shooting a 24-year-old pregnant woman on the city’s West Side Sunday night was fatally shot by police, authorities said early Monday.
Richard Grimes, 33, of the 4600 block of West Adams Street, allegedly shot twice at police before officers returned fired, the Chicago Tribune reports. He was pronounced dead at 12:20 a.m. at Stroger Hospital, the report added.
Officers were initially called to a report of a domestic battery in the 4600 block of West Adams Street at 11:28 p.m. on Sunday. Chicago police found a 24-year-old pregnant woman at the same address who had been shot, according to the Tribune. She was transported to an area hospital with gunshot wounds to the abdomen and is listed in serious condition, according to a statement from the Chicago Police Department.

Police set up a perimeter of the area. Grimes was spotted in the 4500 block of West Washington Street, and officers approached him. Grimes then fired at officers a second time and “as result of this action, officers returned fired striking the offender,” according to the statement from Chicago police.
Grimes' weapon was recovered at the scene, police said.
“Currently, the specifics of this incident, including the comprehensive use of force investigation are being investigated by the Independent Police Review Authority with the full cooperation of the CPD,” according to an early morning statement from the Chicago Police Department.
The officer or officers involved — the police department's press release did not specify how many officers were invovled — will be placed on routine administrative duties for a period of 30 days.
Two officers were hurt in the shooting, the Tribune reports. One suffered a wound that appeared to be a bullet graze, and the other hurt his leg and suffered chest pains, the report added.
This is the fourth person fatally shot by police in the past 10 days. Shootings on Nov. 18 and Nov. 25 reportedly involved suspects firing on other individuals.
