2 Hurt In Chicago's 3rd Police-Involved Shooting In Less Than A Week

UPDATED: No officers were injured in Tuesday's incident on the West Side. But It's the 4th time cops have been shot at since Friday.

CHICAGO, IL — Two men were injured during a police-involved shooting late Tuesday on the West Side after they allegedly fired on cops, according to authorities. No officers were hurt in the incident in the Montclare neighborhood, Chicago police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi wrote in an update on his Twitter account early Wednesday.

According to police, two men in a gray sedan allegedly opened fire on officers at around 11:54 p.m. Tuesday, June 6, as they were traveling in the 2900 block of North Newland Avenue. The shots, however, hit a civilian vehicle, police said in a statement concerning the incident released early Wednesday. A car chase between police and the suspects ensued, and a shootout broke out in alley, according to police. During the exchange of gunfire, the man in the passenger seat was hit by shots fired by police, authorities said. Further investigation revealed that the driver suffered "an impact head injury" during the shooting and not a gunshot wound as initially believed, police said.
