NATHAN PAULSON, CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER, SHARES TIPS FOR CHARITABLE GIVING IN TODAY’S MARKET

Recent estate law changes may have DuPage residents re-considering their charitable giving and estate plans for the future.  To help explain these changes, estate planning expert and certified financial planner Nate Paulson of Paulson Wealth Management, Wheaton, is hosting a free seminar “Charitable Giving, an Investment in the Future” during Money Smart Week.  The seminar will be held on April 6, 7:00 pm, Winfield Public Library S291 Winfield Rd., Winfield, IL.  To register, call 630-645-6343 or email elizabeth.esler@uw-mc.org.

Paulson will discuss various charitable vehicles and strategies to make current, strategic and legacy gifts.  Some of his tips will include:

  • Estate tax exclusions changed in December 2010.  Understand what they are and how they will affect your plans.
  • Estate tax exclusions may change again in 2013.  Be sure to anticipate and discuss with your professional advisor.
  • Consult with a professional about how the low interest rate environment may be advantageous for your planned giving.
  • How to use the internet to research and evaluate charities before making a gift.
  • Currently, the government takes about half of what is in excess of the estate tax exclusion.  Learn how you may be able to leave a legacy to benefit others after you’re gone.

Paulson is the founder of Paulson Wealth Management LLC and has more than 15 years experience in global business and finance, spending most of that time in derivatives trading, investment advisory and wealth management.  Prior to founding Paulson Wealth Management, he was Vice President - Investments and Wealth Advisor at UBS Financial Services Inc., where he was recognized as a leading advisor of the firm.  Before joining UBS, he traded futures in Chicago, and served as an options market maker for CMT GmbH in Frankfurt, Germany.
