"Christianity, Motherhood, and the Uniqueness of Women" with Dr. Daniel Williams & Dr. Nadya William

The History Department at Wheaton College presents "Christianity, Motherhood, and the Uniqueness of Women," a lecture by Dr. Nadya Williams and Dr. Daniel Williams on Thursday, September 24, 2026 at 7:00 PM.

Christianity's radical message about the uniqueness of women and their personhood challenged the ancient world's thinking. It continues to challenge Americans today. In this lecture delivered by a husband-and-wife academic team, Dr. Nadya Williams will share the insights she gained as an ancient historian (and mother) writing a book about Christianity and motherhood from antiquity to the present. Dr. Daniel Williams will share his research on pro-life feminism and Christianity's role in the American debate over abortion and the meaning of human personhood for both men and women.  

Nadya Williams is Managing Editor at Mere Orthodoxy, where she hosts the Christians Reading Classics podcast. She is Senior Fellow at the Ashbrook Center at Ashland University, where she also serves as interim director of the MFA in Creative Writing. She is the author of, most recently, Christians Reading Classics (Zondervan Academic, 2025). Her next book, The Literate Soul: What Four Thousand Years of Reading Books Teaches Us About Loving God, is forthcoming in 2027 from Brazos Press.

Daniel K. Williams is an associate professor of history at Ashland University and the author of several books on American religion and politics, including God's Own Party, Defenders of the Unborn, The Politics of the Cross, and Abortion and America's Churches. He is a contributing writer for Christianity Today and Mere Orthodoxy.Reception to follow event.
