Carol Stream Woman Convicted Of Putting Nail Polish Remover In Stepdaughter's Sippy Cup

Andrea Vazquez-Hernandez, 37, was found guilty of pouring nail polish remover into her stepdaughter's milk to "punish" her husband.

CAROL STREAM, IL — A Carol Stream woman has been found guilty of pouring nail polish remover into her infant stepdaughter's milk in an attempt to get revenge on her husband, according to Chicago Tribune. Andrea Vazquez-Hernandez, 37, was convicted of three counts of battery for the May 29, 2016 incident, which she prosecutors say was done to get revenge on her husband because the baby was born out of wedlock.

"I did it without thinking about it," Vazquez-Hernandez said in Tuesday's testimony, according to Chicago Tribune." Everybody knows what nail polish remover is. It's caustic," Judge Brian Telander responded. Vazquez-Hernandez's conviction comes after a failed attempt by her attorney to get the nail polish remover poisoning case thrown out on the grounds that the infant spat out and did not fully ingest the mixture.

Vazquez-Hernandez will remain in custody in the DuPage County Jail as she awaits a sentencing hearing. She will appear in court again on Aug. 6 and faces extra charges because the child whose milk she tainted was under 13 years of age, according to police records.
