City Officials Visit Madison Elementary’s 4th Graders

Providing civic engagement is a core value of our D200 curriculum. Mrs. Fraser and Mrs. Graham decided to reach out to our city government.

Providing civic engagement is a core value of our D200 curriculum. Mrs. Valerie Fraser (a 4th grade educator) and Mrs. Diane Graham (Library Resource Center Director) from Madison Elementary School decided to reach out to a few of our city government officials to enhance the learning experience for students. Mayor Suess, Assistant City Manager John Duguy, and Councilwoman Lynn Robbins were excited about the opportunity to speak with students about the workings of our local government. Prior to their visit, students brainstormed and constructed a list of questions regarding city government duties. Mrs. Fraser reflected on the lesson plan by stating, “It was a wonderful experience for the kids and our city officials.”

Our WWEA would like to thank Mrs. Valerie Fraser and Mrs. Diane Graham for engaging students in civics while reaching out to our local government officials. This was a great activity that brought our city leaders into our schools to engage students.
