A Day of Mindfulness: Exploring Original Buddhist Meditation Practices with Santikaro

Saturday, August 13, 9:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. at the Theosophical Society

1926 N. Main St., Wheaton, IL 60187

The original Buddhist texts offer a variety of meditation practices that can be used to cultivate wholesome states of mind. Using the teachings found in those texts, we will explore the following practices that are conducive to both calm and insight:

• mindful breathing
• basic realities of our bodies
• heart's release through kindness & benevolence
• contemplating change, uncertainty, & death
• recollection of our own deva qualities (shining ethics)

Santikaro is the founder of Liberation Park, a Buddhist retreat center in Wisconsin. There he teaches Buddhism and meditation with an emphasis on the early Pali sources. He was a Buddhist monk for 19 years and a disciple of the renowned Thai meditation master Buddhadasa Bhikkhu.
