Downtown Wheaton Driver Services Facility Will Remain Open

The facility had been slated to close on Thursday but the owners of the building have decided to renew the facility's lease.

WHEATON, IL - The Secretary of State's express driver services facility in downtown Wheaton will remain open after the owners of the building decided to renew the facility's lease just a day before the location was slated to close, the Daily Herald reports.

The driver services facility at 128 W. Liberty Drive recently announced it planned to close at 5 p.m. on March 24 after the state failed to make rent payments on the location at 128 W. Liberty Drive in Wheaton for several months, according to an earlier article on the Daily Herald. The ongoing budget impasse was to blame and secretary of state spokesman David Druker told the Daily Herald 138 driver service facilities in the state have not received rent payments since July.

Following an overwhelming response from the community and a desire to keep the location open to serve residents in the western suburbs, the property owners decided Wednesday to renew the lease on the Wheaton drivers service facility, according to the newspaper.
