DuPage Sheriff's Deputies Investigate 'MacGyver Bomb' at Dist. 33 School

Device reportedly exploded Friday morning in parking lot of Indian Knoll Elementary School in unincorporated West Chicago.

From the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office:

At approximately 10:30 am the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report that a plastic bottle exploded in the parking lot of Indian Knoll Elementary School in unincorporated West Chicago.

Sheriff’s deputies arrived and determined it to be a chemical reaction device commonly known as a “MacGyver bomb”. Deputies searched the entire grounds and inside the school as a precautionary measure to make sure all students and staff were safe from harm. No additional devices were located.

The Dist. 33 elementary school is located at 0N645 Indian Knoll Road, West Chicago. Dist. 33 serves all or portions of West Chicago, Winfield and Wheaton.

No one was injured. The sheriff’s office will continue to stay at the school while detectives continue their investigation. If anyone has information regarding the incident, please contact the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office at 630-407-2400.
