Ethan Roser’s Tragic Death: Wheaton Police to Conduct Investigation
Ethan Roser, 19, died Saturday after he was struck with a hammer at a track and field meet where he was volunteering.

WHEATON, IL — The City of Wheaton will conduct an investigation into the death of Ethan Roser, 19. Roser died Saturday after he was struck in the head by a track and field hammer at a meet where he was volunteering.
Wheaton Police and Fire Departments responded to an emergency call of a man who went into cardiac arrest after being hit with a track and field hammer around 4 p.m. on April 22, 2017. When emergency crews arrived on the scene at Lawson Field at 517 E. Forest, several residents were already providing medical assistance to Roser, a freshman from Loveland, Ohio. Wheaton Fire Department rushed Roser to Good Samaritan Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Officers are conducting a further investigation into Ethan Roser’s death. They know Roser was not on the field during warm-ups before the meet, when he was was struck in the head by a 16-pound track and field hammer that somehow flew off the field. They are currently working to piece together the events that lead to the 19-year-old’s death.
