ST. CHARLES, IL — A Yorkville man allegedly used his girlfriend's deceased father's guns to fire 30 rounds inside his parents' home in an incident he reported as a burglary, police say. St. Charles police charged Timothy Fay, 28, with felony counts of disorderly conduct, aggravated discharge of a weapon, and reckless discharge of a firearm after the Oct. 26 incident.

At one point, Fay reportedly told another officer he had been cooking soup when the intruder fired into the home's kitchen through the deck window. Police say they later observed that there was no evidence of gunfire in the home's kitchen.

After getting a search warrant, police found several guns and rounds of ammunition inside the home. Fay told them the guns and ammo belonged to his girlfriend's father, who died in September, the police report states. His girlfriend later confirmed this with police and told them she had visited Fay around 12:30 p.m and he told her about the burglary, two hours before he reported the incident.

He told her he was suicidal and did not want to inform the police of the burglary, according to the police report.

During later interviews with police, Fay reportedly told officers he had filed several shots throughout the home to sample the force of different bullets. Police had observed bullet holes of different calibers in furniture, pillows and walls during their investigation.

Fay turned himself in on Nov. 3 after a warrant was issued for his arrest. His bail was set at $20,000 and he was released after posting $2,000. He is set to appear in court on Nov. 17.
