Marianjoy Named One of the 20 Most Beautiful Hospitals in the U.S

Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital, part of Northwestern Medicine, has been named one of the “Top 20 Most Beautiful Hospitals in the U.S.” by Soliant. Supporters from across the country nominated 96 facilities and cast 8.5 million votes for those that recognize nurturing staff, comforting aesthetics and innovative designs as key elements of beauty, which contributes to the overall well-being of patients. Marianjoy previously appeared on the Soliant Most Beautiful Hospitals list in 2009, 2013, 2016, 2017 and 2018.

“We are once again proud that we continue to be recognized for the healing environment and state-of-the-art technology that our beautiful campus provides for our patients,” said Cori Zacher, vice president of Operations at Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital, part of Northwestern Medicine.

Situated on a lush, 60-acre wooded campus, Marianjoy provides patients and their families with a high degree of comfort and privacy, while offering beautiful views of nature. On the ground floor, a labyrinth connecting the buildings offers patients and guests a place of solitude and reflection. Several gardens provide an opportunity for meditation and to experience the healing effect of interacting with nature.

Soliant praised the 170,000-square-foot hospital as “committed to creating a place of healing for its patients, that feels just as comfortable as their own home. The facility features a warm-water therapy pool overlooking a first-of-its-kind rain garden as part of a delightful multi-level green campus.”

The therapy pool is located within the Marianjoy Assistive Rehabilitation Technology Institute, a building that used to house the original inpatient hospital. In 2014, the space was repurposed and designed to highlight both the art and science of rehabilitation medicine. The Tellabs Center for Neurorehabilitation and Neuroplasticity, a treatment space offering advanced technology for patients with neurological impairments, features large windows on all sides, offering tranquil views of nature, while the clean lines, tall ceilings and open concept of the therapy area mimic the feeling of the wide-open spaces that surround the campus.

Marianjoy is one of two Northwestern Medicine hospitals to be named to the Most Beautiful list. Northwestern Medicine Lake Forest Hospital’s new 483,500-square-foot facility was also honored. The new hospital, which opened on March 3, 2018, features five interconnected pavilions, 114 inpatient beds, 72 outpatient care spaces and a distinctive reflecting pond and waterfall along its eastern facade.
