Live Music in Community: Hear Midori You are invited to experience one of the most beautiful musical encounters of your life. The global artist, violinist #Midori appears Monday, November 13, 7:30 PM with the #Festival Strings Lucerne. Each--soloist and orchestra, are renowned in their own right, but together they offer a spectacular opportunity to experience live music acoustically. Very little of the music we hear these days is acoustic. Most of it is piped to our ears via AirPods, headphones, home theaters, church sound systems and stadium loudspeakers. Often even acoustical music is digitally enhanced. Where have you been lately that you could listen to the pure, un-processed sound made by an instrument or voice vibrating sound waves through the air till they activated your eardrums? It's not just that amplified music is generally too loud (which it is), but even the best amplified music is not true to the artist's genius. It manipulates. It distorts. It is imbalanced. Sometimes it even mangles the sound. Music is also best enjoyed in community. In this age of über personalization, we can forget just how wonderful it is to feel the excitement of the gathering audience leading up to a live event, to hear the sighs of satisfaction when a certain passage touches the emotions in a certain way, and to participate in the ovation when the audience clamors to honor and thank the artists for giving their all. And I've seen rare examples of when they do not. Most artists arrive and still want to practice those challenging bits before they take stage, and wonder, mid-stride, whether their best was good enough. Artists are sacrificial that way and most audiences sense that. These are just two big reasons why you should drop everything Monday night, November 13, in Edman Chapel and join us to hear the wondrous, lustrous beauty of a great violinist--Midori, with one of Europe's most respected chamber orchestra--Festival Strings Lucerne. You can purchase tickets online at tickets.wheaton.edu. Or call (630) 752-5010. See you at the concert!
