Teens Passed Lit Joint To 5-Year-Old Nephew: Police

Two Warrenville teens are charged with giving their 5-year-old nephew marijuana, according to police. They allegedly passed him a lit joint.

WARRENVILLE, IL — Two teen brothers from Warrenville have been charged with giving marijuana to their 5-year-old nephew, according to the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office. The 17- and 14-years-old boys were charged with felony counts of aggravated battery to a child. One of the brothers was charged with resisting a police officer.

The news release said that on Wednesday, June 28, the teens locked themselves in a bathroom with their young nephew. Police said the brothers then passed a lit joint to the child. The victim's mother reportedly smelled marijuana and opened the door to find her son coughing and in tears. She then reported the incident to the Warrenville Police Department.

DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said, "The allegations against these two juvenile defendants are very disturbing. Marijuana is an illegal drug and why anyone would supply an illegal drug to a five-year-old, as alleged in this case, is just inexplicable. I would like to thank the Warrenville Police Department for their work on this case. I would also like to thank Assistant State’s Attorneys Katie Rowe and Jim French for their efforts as well.”
