Vintage Car Show on August 13 at Windsor Park

Take a nostalgic ride down memory lane during Windsor Park's Vintage Car Show on Sunday, Aug. 13 at 1:30 p.m.

Don Henry, 93, recalls the $150 purchase was a labor of love.

“A ’37 Chevy. Bought it for $150, towed it home and spent the next nine years restoring it from top to bottom, even the upholstery,” he said with a hint of pride, adding, “then we drove it for another 35,000 miles.”

It was the first of four antique car restorations and the start of more than four-decades of touring with members of the Great Lakes Chevrolet Car Club. “This club liked to drive their cars, not just own them,” he said.

He and his wife, Marge, both Glenview, Ill., natives and now residents of Windsor Park retirement community in Carol Stream, toured with fellow members in their antique cars: to Niagara Falls, Lake Itasca, even Denver. Don was in charge of planning the trips.

Don and Marge moved to the senior living community only five months ago. They took one look at Windsor Park’s 60-acres and the gazebo and thought, “This would be the perfect place for a car show.” Just like old times, Don organized a car show with the Great Lakes Chevrolet Car Club.
