Wheaton College Hazing Victim Denies Prior Shoulder Injury

A defense attorney says there's a video that proves the victim's shoulders were injured prior to the alleged hazing.

WHEATON, IL — The victim of the much-publicized 2016 Wheaton College hazing is challenging an allegation that he had shoulder injuries prior to the incident. A lawyer for one of the charged players, Benjamin Pettway, is requesting access to a cellphone video that he says proves the victim, Charles Nagy, hurt his shoulder during a football game and not during the hazing, Chicago Tribune reports.

In February, defense attorneys had requested medical records to determine if Nagy had sustained a prior shoulder injury.

The argument, which was presented in court by attorney Lee Davis Tuesday, contends that Nagy's former roommate witnessed Nagy experiencing shoulder pain while working out. It also alleges that Nagy told the roommate he hurt his shoulder during a football game. Davis alleges that tackle was captured on video.

The attorney for Nagy, Terry Ekl, argues that there is no such video, according to Chicago Tribune.

Prosecutors previously allege that Nagy's shoulders were torn after the incident, in which he was allegedly beaten, bound, kidnapped, and left partially closed on a baseball field near Wheaton College.
