Wheaton Encourages Vigilance, Increases Police Presence
City officials said Wheaton was not directly affected by looting, but has increased its police presence to ensure public safety.

WHEATON, IL — The city of Wheaton is increasing its police presence and urging residents to take safety measures after criminal activity and looting was reported in nearby towns Sunday. In a Facebook post, the city said its businesses were not directly affected by the looting, but added that some local businesses may have delayed openings.
The looting and protests come in the wake of the death of George Floyd.
City officials said in the post, "When commuting, traveling, or planning a shopping trip to other neighboring communities check local news to ensure it is safe to do so and the business is open.If you witness criminal or suspicious activity, say something. Get to a safe location and call 911 for police response."

The DuPage County Sheriff's Office told Patch several looting attempts were thwarted Sunday. In nearby Downers Grove, a looting incident was reported at the Best Buy at 1432 Butterfield Rd.
