Wheaton Make a Difference Day Supports Community This October

City of Wheaton Community Relations Commission partners with local organizations for virtual and in-person, socially distanced events

The City of Wheaton Community Relations Commission is partnering with three local organizations to celebrate Make a Difference Day (Saturday, October 24) in Wheaton. Community involvement is highly encouraged by Wheaton residents in these virtual and in-person events. Sign ups are available for in-person events through Friday, October 16 via the City of Wheaton Make a Difference Day page (https://wheaton.il.us/madd).

Partner organizations and activities include:

  • Student Excellence Foundation: The foundation’s purpose is to bring essential items to students and families of District 200. Learn more on the City of Wheaton Make a Difference Page and and support via online donations to the new Essential Needs Fund for Students and Families in Crisis (formerly the Food Insecurity Crisis Fund) (donate here). Donations are accepted at any time, but Thursday, 10/22 is the key date for donations.
  • People’s Resource Center: This in-person event will include the unloading of trucks carrying donated foods. Unloading of the truck will take place at the People's Resource Center in Wheaton on Friday, 10/23. This is an in-person event; social distancing will be respected and masks will be required. Time: Multiple shifts. Space is limited. Sign-up deadline: Friday, 10/16, Link to sign-up on the City of Wheaton Make a Difference Day website.
  • City of Wheaton Forestry Division: Volunteers will help beautify Adams Park in Downtown Wheaton by weeding and raking the park. This is an in-person event and will be held on Saturday, 10/24. Time: 8 am-11 am. Social distancing will be respected and masks will be required. Space is limited. Make a Difference Day (October 24, 2020) is an annual national day of doing good that emphasizes community service and volunteerism to enable individuals to give something back to the communities they live and/or work in. The City of Wheaton Community Relations Commission’s purpose is to promote community involvement and volunteerism, therefore, organizing events in celebration of Make a Difference Day helps to further that purpose within the community.
