Wheaton Man Climbed Onto Railing Before Death At Wrigley Field: Police

Police said Richard Garrity, 42, of Wheaton was seen climbing over a railing with a cup in his hand before his fatal fall at Wrigley Field.

WHEATON, IL — Police and eyewitnesses say Cubs fan Rick Garrity climbed onto a the railing at Wrigley Field before he fell to his death last week. Garrity, 42, of Wheaton, climbed the railing with a cup in one hand before he fell backwards over the railing and struck his head after a 10- to 12-foot plunge, Chicago Tribune reports.

Garrity was leaving Wrigley Field after the Cubs played the Cincinnati Reds when he fell. He was rushed to Advocate Masonic Hospital where he died of head injuries the following day.

Witnesses reportedly saw Garrity attempt to climb over a 36-inch railing while holding a red cup in his hand, according to Chicago Sun-Times. Police told Chicago Tribune that Garrity was sober when he fell. His death has been ruled accidental.
