Wheaton Library Will Soon Get Larger Creative Play Area, Upgrades to Tech Center
The Wheaton Public Library is undergoing a reorganization project. Portions of the library will be closed during the project.

The Wheaton Public Library is undergoing a reorganization project that will involve several collections and pieces of furniture being relocated throughout the library.
The reorganization will fulfill several needs expressed by library patrons during the community analysis and is covered primarily by donated funds, according to a news release.

- Larger creative play area for early learners with more seating for caregivers
- Defined space for ages 8-11 with a zone for STEAM/STEM and craft programs
- Expanded Teenspace on the main floor with ample study and collaborative seating areas
- Easily reached Adult Fiction section with seating
- New DVD/Blu-ray shelving designed for browsing
- Tech Center with digitization equipment, more technology available for checkout, and more space for public computer users
- Development of the Business Resource Center in partnership with Wheaton Chamber of Commerce
- Enhanced Genealogy research area on the 2nd floor, near the Reference Services
DeskLibrary officials are anticipating the moving portion of the project will be completed in three weeks. The library will remain open for the duration of the reorganization. As of Monday, library officials said youth services and most of the lower level of the library would be closed.

Certain library services and collections will be unavailable or have limited access available at various times during the reorganization project. Library staff members encourage those who use the library’s public computers to check out a laptop for use in the library.
Library staff will be locating materials from collections that are inaccessible to the public whenever possible.
