Wheaton Sanitary District’s Project in Hidden Woods
South Wheaton residents strongly decry the unethical push by the Wheaton Sanitary District to install sanitary lines.

The lack of basic communication, disregard for community culture, and unethical business practices prompted residents to come together to form a united front on what many see as an assault on our way of life. Hidden Woods Subdivision is characterized by a rustic forest charm. We have no sidewalks, no streetlights and enjoy the shade of old-growth hardwood trees, the majority of which date back to the 1700’s. Our secluded streets are lined with centuries old tress and we border St. James Farm, one of the largest Forest Preserves in DuPage County. We chose this unique forested haven as a place to raise families, retire, and enjoy a slower pace of life amongst the woods away from the hustle of the city.
The proposed project by the WSD would not only change a way of life for a generation to come, but also displace people who have called this forested haven a home and planned to retire here. For those residents living on a fixed income, the forced connection to the sewer price at $70,000 would be a death sentence. Those residents would be forced to sell their homes and move, and our neighborhood would turn into just another cookie cutter suburban block
The underhanded and unethical ways the WSD is using to force residents to connect include potentially denying them permits for existing septic systems thereby forcing them to buy into the sanitary system.

The deliberate lack of information provided has forced residents to file a Freedom of Information Act on the WSD. This has yielded unsettling results which has finally prompted residents to go to the press. Details can be seen in the attached detailed explanation.
Your presence at WSD’s upcoming meeting this Wednesday Aug. 12th at 9am at 1S649 Shaffner Rd, Wheaton would be greatly appreciated. ###
