Window into Wheaton and the World: A Photo Journey

Wheaton Public Library features Vallari Talapatra's stunning photos of open spaces, near and far.

Homebodies and seasoned travelers alike will enjoy Wheaton Public Library's latest exhibit: Window into Wheaton and the World: A Photo Journey with Vallari Talapatra. Part of the Library's Arts and Cultural Center, the exhibit runs the entire month of April.

Vallari has been taking snapshots in her mind even before picking up her first camera: an old Minolta-35 that her grandfather used. "I then graduated to a Nikon D50 with a Tamron 28-200 lens. These days, I feel the power of an advanced camera in the palm of my hand with my iPhone 13 ProMax. I am now able to capture magical moments on my walks around Wheaton and its lovely open spaces," she reflects.

Vallari's background of being an Architect and a Landscape Designer has helped her continue to become a keen observer and planner. "As I tell my students when I am teaching Design, a plan is worth every minute you spend on it. It is the same with pictures – I like to tell a story through each one of them and to do that I concentrate on the right moment," she says.

This talented Wheaton resident describes her process, "When I am chasing light, I am on an adventure. Whether it is hiking through the Rockies or a night stroll in the Big Apple, I pause, soak myself in the moment and then proceed to make the composition. Light and Time are at the heart of every picture I take."
