New Trier Township Caring Neighbors- Provides Holiday Cheer

Caring Neighbors, a time-honored program at New Trier Township provides holiday gifts to resident families facing financial hardships.

Caring Neighbors, a time-honored program at New Trier Township that provides holiday gifts to resident families facing financial hardships is seeking community members to sponsor a neighbor in need.

Township staff identifies and qualifies local families requiring assistance to provide holiday presents for their children. Families submit wish lists of items their children would both need and enjoy, and donors sponsor the family, purchasing gifts for the children.

Alan Goldberg, Supervisor of New Trier Township said, “This program is important on many levels. Donor are doing much more than providing joy to children, they are also strengthening families facing hard times. Stable families make our communities stronger.”

Historically few adults submit holiday wish lists, but many sponsors also include gift cards for the parents. The process is confidential for both donors and residents. To ensure client dignity, gifts are distributed by Township staff in private appointments with the recipients.

Supervisor Goldberg added, “The generosity of people along the North Shore has helped many people enjoy a dignified holiday season. We are grateful to those who have helped in the past and hope that more will join us to brighten the holidays this year.”
