Tests Show No Lead in Water at Wilmette Catholic Schools

The water at both St. Francis Xavier School and St. Joseph's School is safe.

WILMETTE, IL - All water fountains at both St. Francis Xavier School, 808 Linden Ave. and St. Joseph’s School, 1740 Lake Ave. in Wilmette were found to have lead levels below the Environmental Protection Agency’s action level of 15 ppb and were deemed safe.

There is “no action required” at either school, according to the Archdiocese of Chicago. The Archdiocese recently tested lead levels at fountains at all 180 of its schools voluntarily.

In all, 56 Chicago-area Catholic elementary and high schools have lead levels considered unsafe by federal regulations. St. Althanasius School in Evanston is one of the 56 where action will be needed.
