High Lead Levels Reported at St. Althanasius School in Evanston
The catholic school was one of 56 in the Archdiocese of Chicago to have a water source with a lead level over the EPA action level.

EVANSTON, IL - One catholic elementary school in Evanston was found to have a water source with a lead level that was deemed unacceptable.
A basement sink at St. Althanasius School at 2510 Ashland Ave. was found to have levels above the Environmental Protection Agency's action level of 15 ppb, the Archdiocese of Chicago reported voluntarily this week.
The basement sink is not accessible to students.

Both St. Joan of Arc School, 9245 Lawndale Ave. and Pope John XXIII School, 1120 Washington St. were Evanston catholic schools that were tested and found to have no action required.
In all, 56 Chicago-area Catholic elementary and high schools have lead levels considered unsafe by federal regulations.

Of those schools, 18 were located within the city of Chicago while the remaining were located in the suburbs of Lake and Cook counties.
The Archdiocese tested fountains in all of its 180 schools.
