9/11 Memorial Ceremonies Planned on North Shore

Cities and villages on the North Shore will honor 9/11 victims on the 15th anniversary of the tragedy.

Ceremonies remembering the victims of 9/11 in New York City, Washington D.C. and Pennsylvania will be held throughout the country this weekend in honor of the 15th anniversary of the deadliest terrorist attack in the nation's history. Here are the ceremonies planned on Chicago's North Shore.

EVANSTON

Evanston Fire and Police Departments will hold a memorial ceremony at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 11 at Firemen's Park, which is located at the corner of Simpson Street and Maple Avenue in Evanston. The ceremony will honor the brave men and women who lost their lives on September 11, 2001 and recognize the brave men and women of the U. S. Armed Forces who have lost their lives, as well as honor those who continue to fight the war on terror.

Presenters at the ceremony will be police and fire honor guards, "Scotland the Brave" AFFI District 8 Pipes & Drums, Fire Chief Greg Klaiber, Fire Chaplain David Jones, State Rep. Robyn Gabel, Cook County Board Commissioner Larry Suffredin, State Sen. Daniel Biss, Mayor Elizabeth Tisdahl, 9/11 South Tower survivor Mark Shore and Police Chief Richard Eddington.

The ceremony will include a moment of silence at the time the south tower of the World Trade Center collapsed in 2001.

GLENCOE

Members of the Department of Public Safety will gather with the community on Sunday, Sept. 11 to commemorate the 15th Anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. The ceremony will begin at 7:45 a.m. at Congregation Am Shalom, 840 Vernon Avenue near the flag pole at the corner of Vernon and Lincoln avenues.

LAKE BLUFF

The village of Lake Bluff will hold a Patriotic Spirit Day on Saturday, Sept. 10 at the Lake Bluff Village Green from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

LAKE FOREST

Lake Forest Police and Fire departments will remember the victims of 9/11 from 9 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 11 at Market Square, which is located just off Western Avenue and Deerpath. The ceremony will commemorate fallen comrades and civilians on the 15th anniversary of the terrorist attacks the United States suffered on September 11, 2001.

SKOKIE

The Skokie Fire Department will hold a bell ceremony and moment of silence at each of its three fire stations on Sunday, Sept. 11.

A bell ceremony to remember the victims will be held at 8:58 a.m., a "last alarm" bell at 8:59 a.m. (the time the first World Trade Center tower collapsed in 2001) and a minute of silence at 9 a.m. The public is invited to join firefighters at Fire Station 16, 7424 Niles Center Road; Fire Station 17, 8157 Central Park Ave.; and Fire Station 18, 9024 Gross Point Road.

WINNETKA

The village of Winnetka will hold their annual 9/11 Patriot Day Flag Memorial event on Saturday, Sept. 10. The public is encouraged to help organizers plant several American flags at the Winnetka Village Green beginning at 3:30 p.m. that day. The flags will remain standing until sunset on Sunday, Sept. 11.
