The following information comes from the Glencoe, Northfield, Wilmette and Winnetka police departments as a record of police activity and incidents reported to the police. Criminal charges represent merely accusations by the state and are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Anyone arrested is innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.


GLENCOE

INCIDENTS

IDENTITY THEFT
Someone tried to file for unemployment benefits using the identity of a Linden Avenue resident at some point prior to the afternoon of May 28.

LAPTOP THEFT
Someone stole two Apple laptops valued at $2,600 from the 900 block of Valley Road prior to 9 p.m. on May 28.

STOLEN CARS

  • Someone stole an unlocked Mercedes Benz from the 200 block of Walden Drive at some point prior to 7:30 a.m. on May 28. The key fob had been left inside.
  • Someone stole an unlocked Audi that had been left with a key fob inside prior to 12:15 p.m. on May 30.

CAR BURGLARIES

  • A handgun was reported stolen a Ford pickup truck left unlocked in the 700 block of Greenleaf Avenue prior to 5 a.m. on May 28.
  • Someone stole a garage door opener from an unlocked Audi in the first block of Old Green Bay Road prior to 9 a.m. on May 30.
  • Someone stole an undetermined amount of cash from inside an unlocked Audi in the 300 block of Adams Avenue.

NORTHFIELD

INCIDENTS

FRAUD
A representative of Northfield Community Church, 400 Wagner Road, reported around 2:30 p.m. on May 26 that someone intercepted a check in the mail and cashed it without authorization.

ANIMAL BITE
An employee of Becker's Animal Hospital, 322 W. Frontage Road, reported around 1:30 p.m. on May 27 that they had been bitten by a dog receiving treatment.

IDENTITY THEFT
Police were called to a home in the 2300 block of Pebblefork Lane reported around 12:30 p.m. on May 29 that a package they had never ordered arrived at their home. The resident also discovered someone had made unauthorized charges on their credit card.

RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY
A burglar got into a car parked in the driveway of a home in the 2000 block of Old Willow Road, stole a garage door opener from inside and used it to enter an attached garage. A second parked car was burglarized inside the garage.

WILMETTE

INCIDENTS

SHOPLIFTING
Staff at the Walgreens, 811 Green Bay Road, reported that an unidentified male shoplifter stole over-the-counter drugs from the store around 5 p.m. on May 22.

STOLEN CAR
A resident in the 2000 block of Thornwood Avenue reported that someone stole a car they had left unlocked with the keys inside between 4:30 p.m. on May 25 and 3:30 p.m. on May 26.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE
Someone spray painted a sign on the north side of Thornwood Park, 2400 Thornwood Court, near the tennis courts, some time prior to 10:45 p.m. on May 29.

CAR BURGLARIES

  • A resident in the 800 block of Leyden Lane reported seeing someone get into their car and press the brake pedal around 1:15 a.m. on May 22. Nothing was reported as stolen and it was not specified if the resident left the car unlocked.
  • Someone burglarized an unlocked car in the 2800 block of Birchwood Avenue between 7:50 and 8:20 p.m. on May 26, stealing personal items from inside.
  • Someone got into a trailer in the 700 block of Washington Avenue and stole a concrete saw worth $1,500 from inside prior to 11:30 a.m. on May 27.
  • A concrete saw worth $1,800 was stolen from a truck in the 200 block of Lawndale Avenue around 12:15 a.m. on May 28.

THEFTS

  • An unidentified male thief stole a concrete cutter worth $1,200 from a job site in the 600 block of 4th Street around 11 a.m. on May 27.
  • Someone stole a mountain bike that had been left unlocked outside a building in the 1500 block of Sheridan Road at some point between 4 and 4:30 p.m. on May 27.

ARRESTS

Alexa Nechistak, 21, of Lake Zurich, was arrested around 1:30 p.m. on May 26 after police were called to Gillson Park, 700 Michigan Ave., for a report of a battery at the park. Police were told a group of young people had begun swearing at a person, and one of them, identified as Nechistak, knocked a phone out of a woman's hand, pulled her to the ground by her hair and punched her. The victims did not seek to press charges. The other people involved were given a warning not to return to the beach.

Grabriela G. Salamon, 28, of the 4300 block of North Neva Avenue, Norridge, was arrested around 5 p.m. on May 26 after police got a call about a car that struck a decorative rock in the first block of Canterbury Court and tried to drive away. Officers determined Salamon, who refused a breath test, was intoxicated and took her into custody. While being processed, police reported she tried to punch one of the officers. She was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, aggravated assault, resisting arrest and leaving the scene of an accident. She was also issued a citation for improper backing.

Kevin A. Toolibian, 57, of the 900 block of Oxford Lane, Wilmette, was arrested around 5:15 p.m. on May 26 and charged with violation of an active order of protection after police reported he was found to be in violation of a judge's order that prevented him from being in a specified location.

WINNETKA

INCIDENTS

HOME BURGLARY
Someone stole multiple piece of jewelry of unknown value from inside a home in the 600 block of Cherry Street between 4 and 4:40 p.m. on May 28.

STOLEN CAR
Someone stole a car that had been left unlocked with the keys inside in a driveway in the 100 block of Birch Street between 9 p.m. on May 29 and 3 a.m. on May 30. Golf clubs and sunglasses were stolen before the car was recovered in Lincolnwood. The amount of loss was unknown at the time of the report.

GRAFFITI
Someone used black spray paint to deface several areas of an underpass in the 200 block of Green Bay Road prior to 2 a.m. on May 30. The repair cost was not known at the time of the report.

THEFTS

  • Someone stole two purses worth a combined $5,000 from inside a home in the 800 block of Walden Road at some point between May 1 and May 25, police were told.
  • Around 3:30 p.m. on May 29, someone stole a red and white striped men's Trek bicycle worth $350 from an alley in the 900 block of Green Bay Road where it had been left unlocked, police were told.

CAR BURGLARIES

  • A resident in the 900 block of Ash Street reported around 8:30 a.m. on may 28 that someone burglarized a locked car left in the driveway between midnight and 8:30 a.m. on May 28. Nothing was listed as stolen at the time of the report.
  • Someone stole $300 in cash from a car left unlocked in the 100 block of Apple Tree Road between 6 p.m. on May 27 and 8 a.m. on May 27.
  • A resident in the 100 block of Apple Tree Road reported that someone stole a garage door opener worth $30 from a car left unlocked in the driveway between May 22 and May 29.
  • A resident in the 800 block of Hill Road reported that someone had burglarized two cars left unlocked in their driveway between 10 pm. on May 29 and 11 a.m. on May 30. Nothing was listed as stolen at the time of the report.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

John J. Treece, 32, of the 400 block of North St. Louis Avenue, Chicago, was arrested around 9:45 a.m. on May 26 at the Walgreens, 925 Green Bay Road, and charged with the retail theft of over-the-counter drugs and infant formula after police got a call of a shoplifting in progress.

Daniel Velez-Diaz, 36, of the 400 block of Francis Street, Joliet, was arrested around 4:30 p.m. on May 26 in the 1100 block of Tower Road and charged with driving under the influence of drugs, possession of a controlled substance and driving under the influence without a driver's license. He was also issued a citation for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. Police provided no information about the incident that led to his arrest.
