'Bowling Equipment' Find, Check Forgery, Footprints Seen: Blotter

WINNETKA, IL — The following information comes from the police departments of Glencoe, Northfield and Winnetka as a record of police activity and incidents reported to the police. (No one was arrested last week in any of the villages.)

An unidentified caller phoned a resident of the 800 block of Tower Road between Dec. 4 and Dec. 6 with a fictitious story. The caller convinced the resident to buy $1,500 in Target gift cards "under fraudulent circumstances."

Someone racked up more than $4,000 in charges to an AT&T account that had been opened using the personal identifiers of a resident of the 700 block of Foxdale Avenue between June 1 and Nov. 13.
IDENTITY THEFT
Someone made an unauthorized online purchase of $9.90 and tried buy more stuff but was blocked between Sept. 27 and Oct. 21, a resident of the 500 block of Arbor Vitae Road told police.
FORGERY
An employee at a bank in the 0-100 block of Green Bay Road reported on Dec. 12 that someone forged two checks and cashed them without authorization for a loss of $3,575.56 between Nov. 13 and Nov. 16.
IDENTITY THEFT
A resident of the 600 block of Ash Street reported on Dec. 14 that someone had opened up an AT&T account sometime in May and accrued more than $5,000 in charges.
STOLEN CAR
A resident of the 600 block of Hill Road reported that sometime between 2:30 and 2:48 a.m. on Dec. 15, someone stole an unlocked car that had been parked in a driveway with teh keys left inside, along with an iPhone and clothing. The car was later recovered nearby.

IDENTITY THEFT
On Dec. 13, someone reportedly tried to buy a vehicle over the phone using the personal information of a resident of the 100 block of Fairfield Avenue.
THEFT OF LOST PROPERTY
Someone allegedly stole cash from a lost wallet in the 300 block of Park Avenue on Dec. 14. The wallet was later found nearby and only money was missing from inside it.

Someone stole a bicycle that had been locked to a rack in the 700 block of Green Bay Road, police were told on Dec. 14.
CAR BURGLARY/CRIMINAL DAMAGE
Someone smashed open the window of a Subaru parked in the 100 block of Maple Hill Road stole a wallet from inside, police were told on the morning of Dec. 16.
CAR BURGLARY
Someone stole a garage door opener and an unknown amount of cash after entering an unlocked Jeep in the 400 block of Lincoln Avenue, police were told on Dec. 16.
IDENTITY THEFT
A resident of the 400 block of Drexel Avenue told police on Dec. 16 that someone had tried to open up a Comcast account using their identity but had been stopped by a credit monitoring agency.
CAR BURGLARY
Someone stole a pair of prescription sunglasses from an unlocked Jeep in the 200 block of Maple Hill Road, police were told the evening of Dec. 16.
CAR BURGLARY (ATTEMPT)
Someone got into an unlocked Lexus in the 400 block of Lincoln Avenue but did not steal anything, police were told on Dec. 18.

INCIDENTS
SUSPICIOUS FOOTPRINTS
A resident in the 200 block of Dickens Street reported shortly before 5 p.m. on Dec. 11 having found suspicious footprints in the snow around a vehicle parked and locked in a driveway. There were no additional footprints located nearby.
COYOTE ATTACK
A resident in the 400 block of Chapel Hill Court reported on the morning of Dec. 13 that a coyote had just attacked a pet dog in a backyard. Police arrived but did not find the coyote.

BAD CHECKS
An employee from a business located in the 100 block of Waukegan Road reported multiple fraudulent checks had been issued for over $4,000 on one of their accounts starting in early November. Detectives are investigating.
POSSIBLE ATM SKIMMER REPORTED
A caller told police on Dec. 13 that she believed there might be a credit card skimming device installed at a business in the 1800 block of Willow Road in Northfield. Police checked out the location, inspected several credit card processing stations and found nothing suspicious. Detectives are investigating further.
CAR BURGLARY
Officers responded to a possible car burglary in progress at 2:47 a.m. on Dec. 15 after getting a report from a resident in the 300 block of Lagoon Drive that he had observed someone rummaging through his neighbor’s vehicle. The suspect fled the scene before police showed up, and a report was taken for the 2008 Audi which had been gone through by the offender. The Detective Bureau is further investigating the incident.
ARE YOU MISSING BOWLING EQUIPMENT?
On Dec. 15 at 3:42 p.m., a resident in the 300 block of Lagoon Drive reported finding various pieces of bowling equipment while bringing in garbage. The resident figured they might have been proceeds from nearby car burglaries and turned them in to police.
