WINNETKA

INCIDENTS

THEFT
Someone stole a seat from a bicycle locked to a bike rack between 9:30 p.m. on Aug. 29 and 7:10 p.m. on Aug. 30 in the 900 block of Green Bay Road.

THEFT
Someone stole a gas-powered leaf blower with a propane tank from an unattended landscaping trailer worth $800 between 1:17 and 1:27 p.m. on Aug. 31.

CAR BURGLARY
Someone stole a backpack with a laptop and charger worth nearly $1,400 between 9:30 p.m. on Aug. 30 and 6:45 a.m. on Aug. 31 from inside an unlocked car parked in a driveway in the 600 block of Garland Avenue.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE
Someone did $300 in damage with a street sign to a parked car between 11 a.m. and midnight on Sept. 1 in the 200 block of Poplar Street.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

George Althoff, 21, of the 900 block of Ash Street in Winnetka, was arrested on Aug. 31 at the Winnetka Police Department and charged with felony disorderly conduct for providing false information to police.

INCIDENTS

CREDIT CARD FRAUD
A Park Avenue resident reported on the night of Aug. 31 that someone had stolen their wallet and used their credit card at several Sam's Club locations, spending more than $12,000.

TOW TRUCK SCAM

  • A resident in the 300 block of Woodlawn Avenue reported around 11 a.m. on Sept. 1 that a man calling himself "Ben" had shown up at their home and asked for $35 to pay for a tow truck, claiming his wife had been in an accident in Glencoe with police on scene. The resident gave $40 to the man, described as a 5 foot, 8 inches tall, 45 to 50 years old and white with gray hair and blue eyes, but no accident had actually taken place.
  • A resident in the 400 block of Adams Avenue reported on Sept. 1 that someone calling himself "Chris" had come to their home and asked for money to pay for a tow. The man was described as 5 foot, 6 inches tall, 50 years old, and white. He reportedly said his wife had been in accident in Winnetka, and the resident did not give him any money. No accident had taken place in Winnetka either.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE/TRESPASSING
Someone broke the glass on a door and got into a car dealership in the 1600 block of Frontage Road, police were told on the morning of Sept. 1. Nothing was reported stolen at the time of the report.

STOLEN CAR
Someone stole an unlocked Maserati that had a key fob left inside from the 1100 block of Sheridan Road prior to mid-morning on Sept. 3.

CAR BURGLARY
Someone stole a key fob from inside an unlocked Audi left unlocked in the 1100 block of Sheridan Road prior to mid-morning on Sept. 3.

IDENTITY THEFT
A Grove Street resident reported on the morning of Sept. 4 that someone had been able to get access to a social media account and changed their password. Later, police learned the resident's Amazon and Apple accounts had also been compromised but there was no reported monetary loss at the time of the report.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

Shaun H. Chapman, 58, of the 400 block of Park Avenue in Glencoe, was arrested at 11:37 p.m. on Aug. 30 at his home and charged with two counts of domestic battery.

A 42-year-old Chicago man was arrested at 7:48 p.m. on Sept. 2 following a traffic stop near the intersection of Scott Avenue and Sheridan Road and charged with driving without a valid license. He was also cited for his vehicle's lack of a rear license plate light and insurance.


NORTHFIELD

INCIDENTS

DOG BITES DOG
Police were called around 5:38 p.m. on Aug. 28 to a home in the 200 block of Jeffrey Street, where a resident of Meadowood Lane reported that their dog had been bitten by a dog owned by a Jeffrey Street resident. The parties exchanged information.

THEFT
A Willow Road resident reported at 5:50 p.m. on Aug. 30 that they had sent money using an electronic payment system to someone who they had met via an online dating app. Later, they learned the person had been using a false identity.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

A 70-year-old Chicago man was arrested at 12:03 a.m. on Aug. 27 and charged with driving without a valid license following a traffic stop near the intersection of Willow and Wagner roads. He was also cited for operating an uninsured motor vehicle and speeding 27 mph above the limit.
