The Simple Gifts Concert Series will present Boston's Ensemble Aubade (Peter H. Bloom, flute and alto flute; Francis Grimes, viola; and Steven Sussman, piano) in a free concert of wide-ranging masterpieces for the unusual combination of flute, viola and piano. One highlight is the exquisite Kegelstatt Trio K. 498 by Mozart with Bloom on alto flute “wonderfully smoky and mysterious – EarRelevant). Also featured is the magnificent Trio Opus 45 (1856) by the great 19th century composer Louise Farrenc. She was professor at the Paris Conservatory from 1842 to 1873, a renowned concert pianist, and an esteemed composer, acclaimed in her time but rarely heard today. The concert finale is Sonata for Flute, Viola and Piano (1976), a thrilling piece by Mexican composer Eduardo Angulo. The concert, held in the beautiful sanctuary of Glenview Community Church, is free and open to the public.
