NEW TRIER TOWNSHIP, IL — The following information comes from the Glencoe, Kenilworth, Northfield, Wilmette and Winnetka police departments as a record of police activity and incidents reported to the police. Criminal charges merely represent accusations by the state, and county prosecutors often choose to drop or reduce them. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Anyone arrested is innocent unless later proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
GLENCOE
INCIDENTS
DISORDERLY CONDUCT
Someone smeared some kind of food on the window of an unspecified business in the 600 block of Vernon Avenue at some point on July 14, police were told the following day.
IDENTITY THEFT
An Eastwood Road resident reported on July 15 that someone called them up falsely claiming to represent the Secretary of State and convinced them to provide personally identifying information.

CREDIT CARD FRAUD
An Adams Avenue resident reported on July 17 that someone had used their credit card to make a series of unauthorized purchases of Apple gift cards during the prior 10 days.
TICKET SCAM
An Elm Court resident reported on July 20 that someone had scammed them into buying a $300 Target gift card and providing the number online while they believed they were purchasing tickets to an event.

STOLEN CAR
Someone stole a car from the 100 block of Glade Road at some point during the night of July 20 or early morning of July 21, police were told. At the time of the report, police were unsure whether the resident had left the car unlocked with a key inside.

INCIDENTS
BIKE THEFT
Someone stole a bicycle worth about $250 from the rear of Joseph Sears School, 542 Abbotsford Road, during the night of July 9 or early morning of July 10.
IDENTITY THEFT
A Wayland Avenue resident reported around 1:15 p.m. on July 14 that someone had used their identity to apply fraudulently for unemployment insurance benefits.
NORTHFIELD
INCIDENTS
SUSPICIOUS VISITORS
A resident in the 800 block of North Happ Road reported that around 9 a.m. on the morning of July 13 a group of people in safety vests had rung her doorbell and claimed to be working on trimming trees in her back yard. They asked her to come to the yard with them before leaving abruptly a little while later. Nothing in the home had been listed as stolen at the time of the report.
SUSPICIOUS SHARP OBJECTS
A resident in the 500 block of North Happ Road reported on July 14 that they had repeatedly found nails in their driveway and asked an officer to investigate.
HOME BURGLARY
Someone broke into a home in the 200 block of Latrobe Avenue at some point between 11:30 a.m. and about 4:30 p.m. on July 14. The resident reported several pieces of their jewelry appeared to have been stolen.
SUPICIOUS CALLS
A Dickens Street resident reported on July 16 that they someone had been called them repeatedly and asking about an alarm system at their house.
WILMETTE
INCIDENTS
UNEMPLOYMENT FRAUD
A 20th Street resident reported their identities had been used to file fraudulently for state unemployment insurance benefits between July 9 and July 16 .
TEXT SCAM
A Michigan Avenue resident reported that they had clicked on a link from an unsolicited text message that claimed to have come from the Secretary of State's Office and provided personal information on July 9 before realizing it was a scam.
PHONE SCAM
A Cleveland Avenue resident reported that someone had called them on July 9 purporting to work for identity theft protection company Lifelock. The resident gave the caller remote access to their bank account and computer after being told that they were "owed a refund," later purchasing an unspecified amount of gift cards and providing their numbers to the caller.
THEFT
A visitor at Gillson Park, 700 Michigan Ave., reported that personal items were stolen from near the sailing beach on or before July 12.
STOLEN BIKE
Someone stole a black GT Aggressor bicycle that had been left unlocked at the recreation center, 3000 Glenview Road, on or before July 13.
CRIMINAL DAMAGE TO PROPERTY
Staff at Harper School, 1101 Dartmouth St., reported on July 15 that someone had caused unspecified damage to a window.
ARRESTS/CITATIONS
Kathryn Ann Gallanis, 61, of the 100 block of Melrose Avenue, Kenilworth, was arrested around 11 p.m. on July 9 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, obstructing a police officer and resisting police following a traffic stop around the 500 block of Kenilworth Avenue. Officers reported she appeared to be intoxicated but refused to get out of her car. After being taken into custody and driven to the police station she refused further testing. Police also issued her citations for improper lane usage and illegal transportation of an open container of alcohol by a driver.
Kent Johnson, 61, of the 1400 block of Sheridan Road, Wilmette, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident following a hit-and-run traffic crash at the intersection of Greenleaf Avenue and 11th Street around 1 p.m. on July 10. Officers reported Johnson was found nearly 3 miles away, driving the car responsible for the two-car crash in the 2900 block of Old Glenview Road. He refused to provide a breath sample after being taken into custody.
A 50-year-old Addison woman was arrested around 10:30 a.m. on July 15 and charged with driving without a valid license following a traffic stop near Lake Avenue and Illinois Road. She was also ticketed for speeding.
WINNETKA
INCIDENTS
BIKE THEFTS
- Someone stole an unlocked bicycle worth $175 from a rack outside New Trier High School at some point between 9 a.m. June 24 and 1 p.m. July 9.
- Someone stole a locked bike from a parking structure in the 1000 block of Scott Street between 4 p.m. July 5 and 7 p.m. July 17 for a loss of $150.
STOLEN ITEMS
Someone stole more than $5,000 worth of sterling silver and collectable items from a home in the 700 block of Bryant Avenue at some point between Jan. 1 and June 12.
CRIMINAL DAMAGE
A resident in the 800 block of Boal Parkway reported that someone scratched their parked car with an unknown object at some point between 6 p.m. July 12 and 11 a.m. July 13, causing an unknown amount of damage.
UNEMPLOYMENT FRAUD
A Green Bay Road resident reported on July 4 that someone had used their personal information to apply fraudulently for unemployment insurance benefits.
IDENTITY THEFT
A Sunset Road resident reported that someone stole more than $5,000 from them by gaining access to a savings account and cashing fraudulent checks between 3:30 p.m. July 14 and 4 p.m. July 15.
SIGN THEFT
Around 8:30 a.m. on July 19, an officer noticed that someone had stolen two street signs from their posts at the intersection of Ravine and Sheridan roads, costing the village $600 in repair costs.
ARRESTS/CITATIONS
Jerry White Jr., 21, of the 1000 block of East 132nd Street, Riverdale, was arrested around 12:45 p.m. on July 14 in the 600 block of Exmoor Road in Kenilworth and charged with retail theft after police were dispatched to a call about recent shoplifting from the 7-Eleven convenience store at 88 Green Bay Road.
Heaven Beltran, 18, of the 3000 block of Ruth Street, Franklin Park, was arrested around 12:15 p.m. on July 16 and charged with failure to give information after damaging an unattended vehicle and driving without a valid license. Officers also issued her a citation for unsafe backing on roadway.
