Commission Split On 'One Winnetka'

Pros and cons of proposed 6-story building downtown discussed by commissioners.

The Winnetka Plan Commission appears to remain divided over the scaled back plan for a 6-story building planned at the corner of Lincoln Avenue and Elm Street.

Two commissioners spoke favorably of the project, which Stonestreet Partners LLC now plans for a 70-foot tall building with a total of 71 apartment units , retail space and underground parking - according to the Daily North Shore. But two continue to have concerns.

“I am very much against this project as it stands today,” Commissioner Louise Holland said during the last meeting. “We must not confuse careful use of our laws and the desire to do the best for our village with the fear that nothing will happen to this property.”

Commissioner Paul Dunn spoke in favor, noting that something needs to be done with the location known as the “Fell Property.”

“We need rejuvenation,” he said. “Winnetka needs to make this work.”

More discussion, and possibly a vote, will take place at the next Plan Commission meeting planned for August 26 at 7 p.m.
