Counterfeit Suspect Steals $400 In Booze, Escapes Police: Blotter

The following information comes from the Glencoe, Northfield, Wilmette and Winnetka police departments as a record of police activity and incidents reported to the police. Criminal charges represent merely accusations by the state and are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Anyone arrested is innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.


GLENCOE

INCIDENT

IDENTITY THEFT
A Holfelder Road resident reported on the afternoon of June 11 that they discovered a delinquent account on a credit report, and it appeared that someone had used their identity to illegally spent more than $10,000.

STOLEN CARS/GARAGE BURGLARIES

  • Shortly before 8 a.m. on June 15, a resident in the 300 block of East Elm Court reported that they had left their garage unlocked with an Audi and an Alfa Romeo parked inside with their respective keys. Police said someone stole both of them.
  • Shortly after 8:15 a.m. on June 15, another resident in the 300 block of East Elm Court reported someone got into their unlocked garage, burglarizing a Jaguar and stealing a Volvo that had its keys and credit cards left inside. The credit cards were later used unlawfully, police reported.

CAR BURGLARIES

  • Someone stole a jacket and some charge from an unlocked Ford parked in the 1100 block of Oak Ridge Drive prior to about 8 a.m. on June 15.
  • Someone burglarized an unlocked Lexus and Audi that had been parked in the 1100 block of Terrace Court prior to about 9 a.m. on June 15.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

Jeffrey J. Bradley Jr., 29, of the 300 block of Hickory Place, Elgin, was arrested around 10:30 p.m. on June 11 in the 1000 block of Edgebrook Lane on a Kane County warrant connected to a failure to appear in court following a 2011 guilty plea to drug charges.

NEIGHBOR DISPUTE
Police were called to the 500 block of Valley Way around 2 p.m. on June 12 for a report that a person had been on their neighbor's property without permission. At the neighbor's request, officers informed the person that they were no longer welcome on the adjoining property.

ANIMAL BITE
Police and paramedics were dispatched to the 200 block of Crestwood Village Road around 4 p.m. on June 12 after receiving a report that a resident had been bitten by a stray cat that they had been attempting to catch in their yard.


WILMETTE

INCIDENTS

SCAM
A Prairie Avenue resident reported on June 8 that someone sent them an email suggesting their computer had been hacked. The email threatened to release compromising information if they did not send $2,000 worth of a cryptocurrency. Officers let the resident know the emails were a common scam attempt.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE

  • An officer discovered a screen on a first-floor window at Harper School, 1101 Darmouth St., had been cut on the west side of the school building. The window, however, remained locked and in place.
  • Someone cut the string lights on a back porch in the 1600 block of Greenwood Avenue between 10 p.m. June 11 and 9:45 a.m. June 12.
  • Someone damaged a bush in the front yard of a home int the 300 block of Ridge Road between 3 and 5:45 p.m. on June 12.
  • The word "LUNA" was found spray painted on the north wall of the pedestrian walkway at the Glenview Road overpass above the Edens Expressway around 4:30 p.m. on June 13.
  • Someone threw a brick through the back window of a parked car in the 2200 block of Elmwood Avenue between the early morning of June 13 and 12:30 a.m. on June 14.

COUNTERFEIT CURRENCY
An employee at the 7-Eleven, 500 Skokie Blvd., reported that a man in his 30s in a gray or white sweatshirt tried to use a counterfeit $20 bill to buy cigars at 4:21 p.m. on June 14. The clerk told the man the bill was fake and gave it back to him, police reported. The man drove away headed north on Skokie Boulevard in a white Lincoln sedan.

SHOPLIFTING/ELUDING POLICE
Shortly before 5 p.m. on June 14, officers found a white Lincoln sedan stopped in a fire lane at the Walgreens, 3232 Lake Ave. A man with a similar description as the one provided by the 7-Eleven clerk exited the store, placed items in the back of the car and got in the front seat. When an officer attempted to pull the car over, it fled southbound on the Edens Expressway. Walgreens staff later confirmed the man had just stolen about $400 worth of alcohol before fleeing police.


WINNETKA

INCIDENTS

VANDALISM
A Winnetka Park District employee reported that someone defaced the beach house at Lloyd Park, 799 Sheridan Road, between 7 p.m. on June 7 and 11 a.m. on June 8, causing $200 in damage.

PACKAGE THEFT
A resident in the 1200 block of Scott Avenue reported around 4:30 p.m. on June 11 that someone had stolen an item from inside a package that had been delivered to their front porch between May 27 and June 4 for a loss of nearly $200.

BIKE THEFTS

  • Someone stole a bicycle locked to a railing on the east side of the 800 block of Oak Street between 9 p.m. June 4 and 11 a.m. June 6 for a loss of $385.
  • Someone stole a bicycle between 8:30 and 9:15 p.m. on June 12 after it was left unlocked in a parking lot of Tower Road Beach, 899 Sheridan Road, for a reported loss of $300.

CAR BURGLARIES

  • Someone burglarized an unlocked car parked in the 1100 block of Merrill Street shortly before 3 a.m. on June 9, stealing a garage door opener worth $35 from inside.
  • Around 3:50 a.m. on June 9, someone stole a backpack with a wallet, cash and gift cards inside for a loss of more than $2,000 after it had been left inside an unlocked car parked in the 400 block of Sheridan Road.
  • A resident in the 1400 block of Asbury Road reported around 9 .am. on June 9 that someone had gotten into two unlocked cars parked in the driveway and rummaged through their contents during the previous night. Nothing was listed as stolen at the time of the report.
  • A resident in the 1100 block of Scott Avenue reported that someone rummaged through two unlocked cars parked in a driveway around 3 a.m. on June 9. Nothing was reported stolen.
