Social Media Hacker Solicits Explicit Photos For 'Art': Blotters

Break in at church; teen cited over damaged village sign; 911 caller makes false report of shooting: New Trier Area Police Blotters

GLENCOE

INCIDENTS

ELECTRONIC HARASSMENT
A South Avenue resident reported shortly after midnight on June 4 that unidentified people had been repeatedly sending harassing text messages.

THEFT
Someone stole a bicycle worth more than $500 that had been left unlocked in the 300 block of Park Avenue prior to 7 p.m. June 5.

DISORDERLY CONDUCT
Someone made a 911 call around 3:45 a.m. on June 7 to falsely report a shooting around the 1100 block of Bluff Road. Police reported the address provided was not valid and there was no victim found in the area.

SCAM
A Glencoe resident reported discovering around 10 a.m. on June 9 that they sent explicit photographs in response to an advertisement on a friend's social media account. The resident thought the friend was doing an art project and that they were going to get paid $500. It turned out the friend's account was hijacked by an unidentified hacker, police reported.

INCIDENTS

RETAIL THEFT
Staff at the Walgreens, 1825 Willow Road, reported around 7:30 p.m. on June 6 that someone stole cigarettes from a shelf and fled the store, while at the same time a second person stole cash from an open cash register.

SUSPICIOUS SCOOTER
Staff at Sunset Ridge Country Club, 2100 Sunset Ridge Road, reported around 9:45 p.m. on June 6 that a man on scooter was riding around the golf course. Officers spoke with the scooter-rider, who explained he was looking for a cell phone that had been dropped while golfing earlier.


WILMETTE

INCIDENTS

THEFT TO VEHICLE
Someone stole a catalytic converter from an SUV in the 1200 block of Dartmouth Avenue sometime between May 1 and June 1.

TRESPASSING
Someone removed a window air conditioning unit and gained access to St. Joseph's Catholic Church between 7 a.m. June 3 and 7 a.m. June 4.

BIKE THEFT
Someone stole a bicycle that had been left unlocked at the bike rack near the sailing beach at Gillson Park, 700 Michigan Ave., between 3:50 and 4:09 p.m. on June 7.

CAR BURGLARY
Someone burglarized a vehicle in the 200 block of Dupee Place at some point between Feb. 1 and May 17.


WINNETKA

INCIDENTS

IDENTITY THEFT
A Humboldt Avenue resident reported on the afternoon of June 4 that someone had used their identity to open unauthorized AT&T and Verizon accounts between May 15 and May 30.

THEFT
A resident in the 500 block of Ash Street reported someone stole flower pots from their front yard between 8 p.m. June 4 and 7 a.m. June 5 for a loss of nearly $50.

RETAIL THEFT
Someone stole nearly $3,000 worth of unspecified items from the Walgreens at 925 Green Bay Road around 1 p.m. on June 6.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE
A Winnetka Park District employee reported that someone used an object to break the front door of a shed and damage a fence at Nick Corwin Park between noon on June 4 and 5:30 p.m. on June 6, causing $850 in damage.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

Theodore R. Thomas, 50, of the 1000 block of Florence Avenue, Evanston, was and issued a citation for theft around 1:30 p.m. on June 5 following a report of a person who stole several unspecified items from the Walgreens, 925 Green Bay Road, that were recovered at the scene.

Taft Edward Lewis, 18, of the 900 block of Forest Glen Drive, Winnetka, was issued a citation for criminal damage around 12:30 a.m. on June 7 after officers located a person in the area of 1100 Cherry Street with a damaged village sign.
