WINNETKA, IL — The following information comes from the Winnetka Police Department as a record of police activity. Readers are reminded that an arrest is not an indication of guilt and criminal charges can be dropped or reduced. Everyone is presumed innocent unless they are proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
IDENTITY THEFT
A resident in the 100 block of Ash Street discovered that on February someone had used their personal identifiers to open accounts with Verizon and Vantage and accrued bills totaling $1,234.48. It was reported to police June 19 at 1:44 p.m.

BURGLARY TO A MOTOR VEHICLE
A resident in the 300 block of Euclid Avenue reported on June 20 that sometime the previous night someone had entered an unlocked vehicle and removed $300 worth of gift cards.

CRIMINAL TRESPASS TO VEHICLE
A resident in the 1000 block of Ash Street discovered that someone had entered an unlocked vehicle that had been parked in the driveway and rummaged through its contents, although nothing was immediately reported missing.
BURGLARY TO A MOTOR VEHICLE
A resident in the 400 block of Provident Avenue reported on June 20 that sometime the previous night someone had entered two vehicles and stolen a backpack with a laptop inside for a loss of $800.
FORGERY
A patron in the 400 block of Ridge Road reported on June 20 that sometime between April 3 and June 19 someone had fraudulently obtained and cashed their $1,834 federal income tax return.
CRIMINAL TRESPASS TO VEHICLE
A resident in the 1200 block of Ash Street reported on June 21 that someone had entered a vehicle that had been parked in a driveway and rummaged through its contents sometime the previous night.
BURGLARY TO MOTOR VEHICLE
A resident in the 1200 block of Ash Street reported on June 21 that during the previous night, someone had entered their vehicle and removed the title and insurance card from the glove box.
ATTEMPTED THEFT BY DECEPTION
A resident of the 600 block of Sheridan Road reported on June 22 that someone had accessed their computer on June 20, claiming to be affiliated with Microsoft tech support and asked for a fee for repair services. There was no report of any loss.
IDENTITY THEFT
A resident in the 600 block of Garland Avenue reported on June 25 that someone had used their personal information to open up a Comcast account June 12 or 13, although there was no reported loss.
RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY
A resident in the 300 block of Green Bay Road reported on June 26 that an unknown amount of jewelry and other items were stolen after someone broke into their home between 6:50 a.m. and 6:50 p.m. on June 25.
WARRANT ARREST
A 41-year-old man, of the 1900 block of Calumet Avenue in Chicago, was arrested June 23 on an in-state warrant for failure to appear in court for a traffic offense. The arrest was made after the man had been a witness in an investigation of a traffic crash.
