Drunk Driver Fled Crash: Winnetka, Glencoe, Northfield Crimes

WINNETKA, IL — The following information comes from official reports compiled by the police departments of Glencoe, Northfield and Winnetka as a record of police activity and of those arrested. Readers are reminded that an arrest is not an indicator of guilt and criminal charges represent merely accusations by the state, which are often dropped or reduced. All persons named are presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

On Nov. 2 at 10:35 a.m., someone driving a green vehicle struck another person's vehicle near the intersection of Lake Cook and Green Bay roads but did not stop to exchange information.

RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY
Someone entered an unoccupied home in the 700 block of Strawberry Hill Drive sometime prior to Nov. 3 at 10:35 a.m., police were told. It was not immediately known if any items were taken.
RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY (ATTEMPT)
Someone unsuccessfully tried to get into a home in the 100 block of Sheridan Road, a resident reported on Nov. 4 at 10:58 a.m.
BURGLARY (ATTEMPT)
Someone tried to get into a building in the 1000 block of Forestway Drive, police were told on Nov. 5 at 3:06 p.m. The intruder appears to have fled the scene after activating a burglar alarm.
THEFT
Someone stole lawn maintenance equipment from a landscaper's truck in the 500 block of Park Avenue, police were told on Nov. 6 at 3:48 p.m.
NORTHFIELD
ARRESTS
A 29-year-old North Chicago man was arrested Nov. 1 at 8:16 a.m. in the 2100 block of Sunset Ridge Road and charged with driving without a valid license and speeding 47 mph in a 35 mph zone.
A 40-year-old Chicago man was arrested Nov. 2 at 10:42 a.m. near the intersection of Willow and Northfield roads and charged with driving without insurance or a valid driver's license after he was pulled over for an improper turn.
Nicholas F. Werth, 33, of the 8000 block of Harding Avenue, Skokie, was arrested on Nov. 3 at 3:40 p.m. after he was involved in an accident near the intersection of Winnetka and Hibbard roads. Police said he had a blood alcohol concentration of 0.297, which is more than three-and-a-half times the legal limit. He was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, leaving the scene of an accident, and cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and improper lane usage.
FORGERY
On Oct. 31, a resident of the 0-100 block of Warwick Road reported that someone forged several checks worth more than $5,000 and cashed them between Oct. 16 and Oct. 30.
RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY (ATTEMPT)
A resident of the 400 block of Sheridan Road reported someone unsuccessfully tried to break into a home around 4:37 p.m. on Nov. 2.
THEFT
A patron reported that someone stole two credit cards from a wallet that had been left in an unattended gym bag at the tennis courts in the 500 block of Hibbard Road.
BURGLARY
A patron reported that someone stole two credit cards from an unattended purse in a vehicle at the tennis courts in the 500 block of Hibbard Road between 11:53 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Oct. 27.
CRIMINAL TRESPASSING
A resident of the 500 block of Glendale Avenue reported that someone entered an unlocked vehicle parked in a driveway on Nov. 4 around 2:30 a.m.
CRIMINAL DAMAGE
A resident of the 100 block of Linden Street reported that someone threw an unknown object at a vehicle parked in front of their residence, causing $2,000 in damage, between Nov. 4 at 10:30 p.m. and Nov. 5 at 5 a.m.
CRIMINAL DAMAGE
A resident of the 200 block of Linden Avenue reported that someone damaged a side mirror on a vehicle parked in a driveway between Nov. 4 at 6:30 p.m. and Nov. 5 at 6:50 a.m.
CRIMINAL DAMAGE
A resident of the 700 block of Ash Street reported that someone used an unknown object to damage the windshield and a mirror of a vehicle parked in the driveway on Nov. 4 at 6 p.m. and Nov. 5 at 9 a.m.
CRIMINAL DAMAGE
A resident of the 300 block of Linden Avenue reported that someone damaged the driver's side mirror on a vehicle parked in front of the home by unknown means between Nov. 4 at 9 p.m. and Nov. 5 at 11:15 a.m.
THEFT
A patron of the Winnetka Community House, 620 Lincoln Ave., reported that someone stole a wallet from a purse and used a credit card to make unauthorized purchases between Nov. 4 at 12:45 p.m. and Nov. 5 at 3:30 p.m.
ARRESTS
A 26-year-old Evanston man was arrested Nov. 5 shortly before 9 p.m. in the 100 block of Green Bay Road and charged with driving on a suspended license. He was also cited for speeding and driving an uninsured vehicle.
