Fake Cops Paid $5,000 'Bond' For Fictitious Warrant: Blotter
Home burglaries, road rage, identity thefts and stolen cars on the Glencoe, Northfield and Winnetka blotters from April 4 to April 17.

WINNETKA, IL — The following information comes from the Glencoe, Winnetka and Northfield police departments as a record of police activity and incidents reported to the police. Criminal charges represent merely accusations by the state and are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Anyone arrested is innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
WINNETKA
INCIDENTS
SIGN THEFT
Someone stole removed six political signs placed around the train station area in the 100 block of Northwestern Drive between 7 and 9 a.m. on April 1 for a reported loss of $120.
WARRANT SCAM
An Edgewood Lane resident reported someone called them at 2:45 p.m. on April 1 and claimed to be a police officer. The caller asked for gift cards to pay for fake fees for a phony warrant, and the resident wound up providing the scammer $5,000.

STOLEN CAR
Someone stole a car left parked unlocked with a key fob inside from a driveway in the 1200 block of Cherry Road between 8 p.m. on April 2 and 8:30 a.m. on April 3. The vehicle was later recovered outside of the area. Cash and a driver's license were reported stolen for a loss of $100.

- An Ash Street resident reported on April 3 that someone had used their Nordstrom credit card around 11 a.m. on March 27 and racked up a bill of nearly $1,000.
- A Scott Avenue resident reported on April 8 that someone had used their identity to open up a Best Buy credit card account and make nearly $745 of unauthorized purchases.
- A Sheridan Road resident reported on April 9 that someone had used their identity to get a fake driver's license sometime after March 30 and buy a vehicle for a loss of more than $5,000.
- A Hamptondale Avenue resident reported on April 11 that someone had opened up credit card accounts at Macy's and Best Buy using their identity and racked up nearly $1,650 in bills.
- A Forest Glen Drive resident reported on April 12 that someone had made multiple unauthorized withdrawals from their checking account totaling more than $5,000.
RETAIL THEFTS
- An employee of the Grand Food Center, 606 Green Bay Road, reported that someone had stolen several bottles of liquor worth $700 between 7:18 and 7:21 p.m. on April 4.
- A Walgreens employee reported around 11:45 a.m. on April 9 that someone had just stolen $1,267 worth of razors and over the counter pharmaceuticals from the store at 925 Green Bay Road.
BIKE THEFTS
- Someone stole an unlocked green Giant bicycle worth about $540 from a bike rack at New Trier High School between 7:20 a.m. on April 5 and 4:30 p.m. on April 6.
- Someone stole an black Schwinn bike worth about $400 that had been left unlocked on a sidewalk in the 500 block of Lincoln Avenue between 1 p.m. on April 5 and 11 a.m. on April 6.
HOME BURGLARIES
- A resident in the 900 block of Grove Street reported that someone had burglarized a home and stole bundles of oak flooring worth $900 between 5 p.m. on April 12 and 8 a.m. on April 13.
- A resident in the 700 block of Oak Street reported that someone burglarized a home between 10 a.m. and 7:15 p.m. on April 13, stealing several pieces of jewelry for a loss of more than $5,000.
ARRESTS/CITATIONS
Eleftheria T. Amarin, 30, of the 10000 block of Beverly Drive, Skokie, was arrested around 8:30 a.m. on April 10 at the Winnetka Police Department and charged with domestic battery in connection with an incident reported April 5.
A 36-year-old Elmwood Park man was arrested around 1:30 p.m. on April 8 and charged with driving with a suspended license following a traffic stop in the 1300 block of Willow Road. He was also issued a citation for using an electronic device while driving.
Cortdalro E. Williams, 31, of the 3700 block of West Division Street, Chicago, was arrested at 11:53 p.m. on April 14 and charged with possession of a controlled substance after a car he was a passenger in was pulled over in the 700 block of Sheridan Road.
GLENCOE
INCIDENTS
ROAD RAGE
At 5:17 p.m. on April 13 a motorist turned in front of another driver in the 700 block of Vernon Avenue and nearly caused an accident, police were told. The two drivers argued and the driver who had been cut off left the area but told police that they were being followed by the other driver until they went to the Public Safety Department.
ATTEMPTED CAR THEFT
Someone broke into a car dealership in the 1600 block of Frontage Road before 6:15 a.m. on April 15 in an attempt to steal cars. Police said an investigation into the burglary was ongoing.
IDENTITY THEFT
- A Grove Street resident reported on April 4 that a credit protection service reported someone had tried to open accounts at five stores and banks. All attempts were rejected.
- A Jackson Avenue resident reported around 3 p.m. on April 5 that someone had gotten access to their credit account and made purchases at Auto Zone and Jewel-Osco.
- A Greenwood Avenue resident reported on April 16 that someone had used their identity to buy iPhones and open up a Sprint account, spending about $750. The resident had already been the victim of an identity theft and had frozen their accounts but not reported the incident to police.
ARRESTS/CITATIONS
An 18-year-old Maywood man was arrested around 10:15 p.m. on April 3 and charged with driving without a valid license, possession of cannabis and possession of fireworks following a traffic stop in the area of Sheridan Road and Woodlawn Avenue.
Faga A. Nettles, 26, of the 1000 block of Forest Avenue, Glencoe, was arrested around 11 a.m. on April 5 and charged with assault in connection with an unspecified incident in his block of residence.
A 34-year-old Evanston man was arrested around 2 a.m. on April 7 and charged with driving with a suspended license following a traffic stop in 700 block of Dundee Road. He was also issued a citation for disobeying a traffic control device.

NORTHFIELD
INCIDENTS
BURGLARY
Someone burglarized a storage unit at Northfield Self Storage, 546 W. Frontage Road, between Feb. 28 and March 28.
TAX FRAUD?
An Illinois Road resident reported on the afternoon of April 9 that they had mailed their tax return to an Illinois address but it was delivered to an address in New York. Police referred in the investigation to U.S. Postal Service investigators.
DISTURBANCE
Police were dispatched the Walgreens at 1825 Willow Road for a report of a customer yelling at store staff about a prescription. Officers spoke with staff and the customer, who left the store with no more disturbance.
PERMIT VIOLATION
Officers were dispatched around 8:30 a.m. on April 13 to the 200 block of Graemere Street for a report of work taking place without a permit. Police spoke with the contractor and village building department officials and confirmed no permit had been issued for work at that location.
ARRESTS/CITATIONS
A 72-year-old Vernon Hills man was arrested shortly after 9 a.m. on April 2 and charged with speeding more than 26 mph over the limit after police pulled him over in the 2100 block of Willow Road and said he was driving 56 mph in a 30 mph zone.
A 38-year-old North Chicago man was arrested around 7:30 a.m. on April 3 and charged with driving with a suspended license and expired registration following a traffic stop in the 2200 block of Willow Road.
A 46-year-old Chicago man was arrested around 3:30 p.m. on April 9 in the area of Willow Road and Whittier Lane and charged with driving an uninsured motor vehicle, truck overweight on registration, truck overweight on axle.
A 36-year-old Round Lake Beach man was arrested around 4 p.m. on April 12 in the area of Willow Road and Bracken Lane and charged with no valid safety test and truck overweight on registration.
