Glencoe, Winnetka and Northfield Police Blotters: Sept. 21 - Sept. 27

WINNETKA, IL — The following information comes from official reports compiled by the police departments of Glencoe, Northfield and Winnetka as a record of police activity and of those arrested. Readers are reminded that an arrest is not an indicator of guilt and criminal charges represent merely accusations by the state, which are often dropped or reduced. All persons named are presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

On Sept. 20 at 5:10 a.m., it was reported that someone had entered an unlocked GMC Yukon parked in the 0-100 block of Briar Lane and stole an iPad, credit cards, prescription medication and an undetermined amount of cash.

On Sept. 23 at 6:29 p.m., it was reported that someone took a phone valued at more than $500 that had been left sitting on the porch of a friend's house in the 100 block of La Pier Street.

THEFT

On Sept. 23 at 8:48 p.m., it was reported that someone took a phone valued at under $500 from a home in the 100 block of La Pier Street. It was not known where the phone had been left.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

Rosalinda Vasquez, 53, of the 100 block of Mulberry Road in Deerfield, was arrested Sept. 23 at 11:11 p.m. at Glencoe Beach and charged with driving under the influence.

Jan Bak, 27, of the 300 block of Hazel Avenue, was arrested Sept. 24 at 7:42 p.m. in the 300 block of Park Avenue and charged with domestic battery.

INCIDENTS

THEFT

On Sept. 21 at 12:28 p.m. a resident reported a red Schwinn mountain bike valued at $200 had been stolen from Sunset Ridge School between Sept. 18 and Sept. 21. The resident told police the bike had been left unlocked at the school on Sept. 18.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

A 16-year-old Wilmette resident was issued a citation for possession of a false identification card after a wallet was found at New Trier High School's Northfield campus on Sept. 20, turned over to campus security and a fraudulent out-of-state driver's license was found inside.

Christopher J. Losey, 26, of the 500 block of Hill Terrace, Winnetka, was arrested on Sept. 20 at 10 p.m. after police responded to the 300 block of Walnut Avenue for a report of an accident. They found Losey at the scene and charged him with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving with a blood alcohol concentration above 0.08 (Police said his BAC was .196.) He was also cited for failing to reduce speed to avoid an accident and following too closely.

A 60-year-old Chicago woman was arrested and charged with deceptive practices after officers responded to Walgreens on Sept. 21 at 2:31 p.m. for a report that a person had just acquired a controlled substance from the pharmacy by deceptive means. After she was taken into custody and a metal pipe and glass pipe were found in her possession the woman was also issued a citation for possession of drug paraphernalia.

WINNETKA

INCIDENTS

CRIMINAL DAMAGE

A Winnetka Park District employee reported between 8 a.m. on Sept. 8 and 1 p.m. on Sept. 22, someone cut four cable locks used to secure paddle boards at Elder Lane Beach. Repair costs were estimated at $100.

THEFT
Someone stole an unlocked purple Trek girl's bicycle from the bike rack at Hubbard Woods School, it was reported on Sept. 22 at 11:50 p.m.

IDENTITY THEFT

On Sept. 18, a resident in the 500 block of Locust Road reported discovering that between 3:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. on Sept. 18, someone used their personal information to try to open up a Southwest Airlines Visa card. There was no report of loss.

ELECTRONIC/TELEPHONE HARASSMENT

An investigation continues into someone who has been repeatedly contacting a woman over the internet and by phone for the prior six years. The most recent report was taken on Sept. 20 at 4:39 p.m. in the 600 block of Winnetka Avenue.

THEFT

Someone reportedly stole a black and blue Scott men's bicycle worth more than $500 that had been locked to a bike rack sometime between 6:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. on Sept. 22.

ARRESTS

Stafford L. Huyler, 46, of the 1600 block of Mt. Pleasant Street in Northfield, was arrested Sept. 20 at 10:28 p.m. in the 1300 block of Willow Road and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. He was also issued a citation for speeding.

Aleksandra Tatur Maliszewski, 44, of the 4600 block of South Prairie Avenue, Chicago, was arrested Sept. 21 at 9:32 a.m. at Cook County Court and charged with identity theft and theft by deception. Her arrest was made subsequent to an investigation of an Aug. 23 incident.
