Fraudulent Business Scams Over $10,000; Plate Thefts: Blotters

Winnetka, Northfield and Glencoe police department blotters for June 28 - July 4

WINNETKA, IL — The following information comes from the Glencoe, Winnetka and Northfield police departments as a record of police activity and incidents reported to the police. Criminal charges represent merely accusations by the state and are often dropped or reduced. updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Anyone arrested is innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.


WINNETKA

INCIDENTS

THEFT
A resident in the 900 block of Green Bay Road reported on June 20 that someone stole a passport, wallet and cash worth more than $1,000, which had been left unattended between 4:30 and 7 p.m. on June 18.

IDENTITY THEFTS

  • A Fisher Lane resident reported around 6 p.m. on June 25 that someone had used their personal information in an unsuccessful attempt to borrow money.
  • A High Street resident reported around 3 p.m. on June 26 that they discovered on June 20 that someone had made several unauthorized credit card purchases totaling $279.
  • A Laurel Avenue resident reported on June 29 that the discovered someone had filed for unemployment insurance using their personal information sometime between May 27 and June 5. There was no loss to the resident.

CAR BURGLARY
A patron in the 500 block of Hibbard Road reported at 8:09 p.m. on June 26 that someone had damaged the rear passenger side window and stolen a purse containing nothing of value for a loss of more than $200.

PLATE THEFTS
Someone stole a rear license plate from a car parked in a driveway in the 100 block of Evergreen Lane between noon on June 28 and 5 p.m. on June 29. The following day, police were notified that someone had stolen a rear license plate from a parked car in the 1100 block of Cherry Street between 7 p.m. on June 29 and 7 a.m. on June 30. Someone also rummaged through the center console of a car parked in the 1100 block of Cherry Street but nothing was stolen.

CAR BURGLARY
A resident in the 500 block of Glendale Avenue reported that two unidentified people had gotten into an unlocked car parked in their driveway around 3:39 a.m. on June 30 and stolen a charger for a loss of $40.

CAR BURGLARY (ATTEMPT)
Between noon on June 30 and 2:23 a.m. on July 1, someone got into an unlocked car parked in the 1400 block of Scott Avenue and rummaged through its compartments without taking anything.

CAR BURGLARY
Someone stole a wallet from a car parked in the 900 block of Grove Street between 6 p.m. on June 29 and 2:21 a.m. on July 1. It contained five checks and two gift cards, which were all recovered by police at a unspecified location and returned to their owner.

ARRESTS

Mycah R. Koss, 43, of the 100 block of Linden Avenue in Lake Forest, was arrested at the police station at 1 p.m. on June 26 and charged with disorderly conduct in connection with an investigation into an incident that took place in May.

Edward M. Burke, 46, of the 400 block of Elder Lane in Winnetka, was arrested at 5:14 a.m. at his residence and charged with domestic battery. The arrest was made following a call for service to the home.

GLENCOE

INCIDENTS

CRIMINAL DAMAGE
Someone gouged the paint on the side of an SUV parked in the 300 block of Park Avenue with a sharp object sometime prior to 2:13 p.m. on June 27.

ELECTRONIC HARASSMENT
A Washington Avenue resident reported on June 27 that someone had harassed them via various forms of social media 15 months prior – throughout March 2017.

IDENTITY THEFT
A Bluff Street resident told police someone had opened up a fraudulent business account in another state and somehow withdrew an amount of money greater than $10,000. Police did not immediately respond to a request for more information.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

A 24-year-old Glencoe man was arrested at 10:03 p.m. on June 28 near the intersection of Dundee Road and Juliet Court and charged with driving with a suspended license. He was also cited for operating an uninsured vehicle and driving without lights when required.

A 20-year-old Chandler, Arizona man was cited with a local ordinance violation at 4:39 p.m. on June 30 for soliciting without a permit in the 800 block of Peach Tree Lane.

Daniel A. Beider, 44, of the 500 block of Park Avenue in Glencoe, was arrested at 4:44 p.m. on June 30 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving under the influence with a blood concentration of 0.08 or more following a traffic stop near the intersection of Bluff Street and Lincoln Avenue. He was also ticketed for running a stop sign.



NORTHFIELD

INCIDENTS

THEFT
Someone stole a wood chipper, a stump grinder and a trailer from a business in the 500 block of West Frontage Road between June 22 and June 25.

SOLICITING SANS PERMIT
Police were called to the 200 block of Ingram Street for a report of unregistered solicitors in the area on June 25 and to the 500 block of Woodland Lane South on June 27. In both cases, police located the solicitors, who did not have a valid village permit and were advised to stop until they obtain a permit.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE
A resident in the 0-100 block of Longmeadow Road reported at 10:33 p.m. on June 29 that someone had struck a car parked in their driveway with paintballs.

THEFT
Someone stole a mailbox from the parkway in front of a home in the 1800 block of Happ Road between June 29 and July 1.

ARRESTS

A 27-year-old Chicago man was arrested and charged with driving with a suspended license and speeding 26 to 30 mph over the limit following a traffic stop in the 1900 block of Willow Road shortly before 8:30 p.m. on June 25. He was also cited for operating an uninsured motor vehicle.

A 41-year-old Elmwood Park man was arrested shortly before 8:30 a.m. on June 27 and charged with driving with a suspended license following a traffic stop near the intersection of Willow and Waukegan roads. He was also ticketed for using an electronic communication device while driving.

Christopher A. Hall, 34, of the 3300 block of Roger Avenue in Park City, was arrested at 5:39 p.m. on June 27 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol following a traffic stop in the 2100 block of Willow Road. He was also issued citations for illegal transportation of alcohol and speeding.
