Safe Stolen In Home Break-In; Lease Payment Scam: Blotter

Winnetka, Northfield and Glencoe police department blotters for June 21 - June 27

WINNETKA, IL — The following information comes from the Glencoe, Winnetka and Northfield police departments as a record of police activity and incidents reported to the police. Anyone arrested is innocent unless proven guilty. Criminal charges represent merely accusations by the state and are often dropped or reduced.


WINNETKA

INCIDENTS

CAR BURGLARY
Someone stole an iPod valued at $300 from the center console of an unlocked car parked in a driveway of the 400 block of Poplar Street between noon on June 16 and 11:30 a.m. on June 18.

CAR BURGLARY (ATTEMPT)
Someone rummaged through the contents of a car parked in a driveway the 500 block of Cherry Street in between 1:30 and 9 a.m. on June 18, but nothing was reported stolen.

CAR BURGLARY (ATTEMPT)
Someone rummaged through the contents of a car parked in the 1000 block of Private Road between 9 p.m. on June 17 and 7:45 a.m. on June 18, but nothing was reported stolen.

SHOPLIFTING
An unidentified person stole a purse valued at nearly $200 from a retailer in the 500 block of Lincoln Avenue between 11 and 11:39 a.m. on June 8. Police were informed on the morning of June 21.

THEFT
A resident of 500 block of Cherry Street reported that someone stole a bicycle that had been left unlocked in a side yard between 8 p.m. on June 15 and 10 p.m. on June 16. Police were informed on the morning of June 25.

ARRESTS

Dorota H. Redzisz, 39, of the 5100 block of North East River Road in Chicago, was arrested at 7:44 a.m. on June 18 and charged with forgery. She was allegedly an employee of a cleaning company who took two checks from a Winnetka home and forged signatures before making nearly $2,000 in deposits at a Norridge ATM into a bank account she controlled. She also faces charges for similar offenses in Lake Forest and Northbrook.


GLENCOE

INCIDENTS

CRIMINAL DAMAGE
Someone damaged the flowers on the west side of the Metra station in the 700 block of Green Bay Road, police were told at 2:27 a.m. on June 21.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE
Someone damaged a bicycle worth less than $500 in the 200 block of Linden Avenue, police were told at 8:20 a.m. on June 21.

HOME BURGLARY
Someone broke into a home in the 600 block of Vernon Avenue sometime prior to 8:47 p.m. June 24. The burglar or burglars damaged the home and stole a safe valued at more than $500.

THEFT
Someone stole an unlocked mobility scooter from a bike rack in the 500 block of Washington Avenue shortly after noon on June 25.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

An 18-year-old Layton, Utah man was cited for soliciting without a permit at 7:32 p.m. on June 20 in the 400 block of Woodlawn Avenue.

Andrew J. Leemputte, 22, of the 100 block of Green Bay Road in Glencoe, was arrested at 3:32 a.m. on June 21 in the 1200 block of Sheridan Road and charged with more than $500 in criminal damage to property and criminal trespassing.

A 20-year-old Chicago man was ticketed for possession of less than 10 grams of cannabis, no brake lights and possession of drug paraphernalia, while an 18-year-old Chicago man was arrested for possession of between 30 and 100 grams of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia near the intersection of Carol Lane and Green Bay Road following a traffic stop prior to 1:22 a.m. on June 24.

INCIDENTS

IDENTITY THEFT
An Eaton Street resident reported at 3:48 p.m. on June 19 that someone had opened several financial accounts using their name.

LEASE SCAM?
A Mount Pleasant Street resident reported at 3:29 p.m. on June 20 that they paid for a rental lease andd provided personal information to someone, only to realize they were not the account holder.

THEFT
A resident of the 0-100 block of Regent Wood Road in Northfield reported that someone had stole more than $500 worth of jewelry between October 2017 and June 23.

ARRESTS

A 64-year-old Winnetka man was arrested at 2:09 a.m. on June 19 and charged with driving without a valid license following a traffic stop near the intersection of Forestway Drive and Willow Road. He was also issued citations for driving without headlights when required and improper lane usage.

A 22-year-old Chicago man was arrested at 8:15 a.m. on June 19 and charged with driving without a valid license following a traffic stop in the 1700 block of Willow Road. He was also ticketed for running a stop sign and a damaged windshield.

A 31-year-old Chicago man was arrested at 7:18 a.m. on June 20 and charged with driving with a suspended license following a traffic stop in the 1300 block of Willow Road. He was also issued citations for improper use of registration and expired registration.

A 30-year-old Lorton, Virginia man was arrested at 9:26 p.m. on June 21 and charged with driving with a suspended license following a traffic stop near the intersection of Willow Road and Bristol Street. He was also ticketed for driving while using an electronic device.
