Glencoe Farmers Market Canceled

Chamber of Commerce decides it's best to take a year off and come up with better plan.

Due to an apparent decrease in popularity, the Glencoe Chamber of Commerce has opted to cancel the Glencoe Farmers Market this year in hopes of finding a way to improve the event in the future.

The market has traditionally run on Saturday mornings from June to October at a number of locations. But officials say recently there has not been as much interest from vendors or customers as they had hoped, the Glencoe News reports.

“We had gotten to the point where there were only a couple of booths by the end of the year, so we took a look at the dwindling number of vendors and we want to revitalize the market and come back with something Glencoe will appreciate,” said Juli Janovicz, Glencoe Public Library Executive Director a member of the Chamber of Commerce subcommittee studying the situation.

The hiatus is expected to only last for a year.

Changes could include both the location and time and day of the week the market takes place.

The market has been staged at Wyman Green, the commuter lot on the east side of Green Bay Road and Village Court, just outside Village Hall, according to the Glencoe News. But none of those locations seemed to connect with customers.

“Our market has not grown through the years the way we would like it to for our residents and visitors of Glencoe,” said Glencoe Chamber Executive Director Sally Sprowl.
