Home burglar breaks into bedroom while resident reads; charges of identity theft, credit card fraud: New Trier Area Police Blotters

The following information comes from the Glencoe, Northfield, Wilmette and Winnetka police departments as a record of police activity and incidents reported to the police. Criminal charges represent merely accusations by the state and are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. CAR BURGLARY

  • Someone stole a blanket from a Dodge minivan that had been left unlocked in the 500 block of Drexel Avenue prior to 7:30 p.m. Dec. 2.
  • Someone stole the owners manual from a Volvo left unlocked in the 800 block of Grove Street prior to 1:30 p.m. Dec. 7.

GIFT CARD SCAM ATTEMPT
A Pebblewood Lane resident reported around 1:30 p.m. Dec. 5 that a scammer had sent them an email with an address that appeared similar to someone they knew with a request to buy Target gift cards. The resident contacted their acquaintance and confirmed it was a fraudulent email, avoiding any financial loss.

PACKAGE THEFT
A resident in the 400 block of Sunset Lane reported around 10 p.m. Dec. 7 that someone had stolen a package containing dog food from their front porch.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

Parrish Livingston, 28, of the 5000 block of North Sheridan Road, Chicago, was arrested and charged with credit card fraud and theft of unattended property in connection an incident on the morning of Nov. 12. Police said he stole a wallet from a car at a dealership and used a car at a vending machine, a parking app, gas station and grocery stores, accruing more than $1,000 in charges. He was identified using video and financial records and arrested in the 2700 block of Skokie Valley Road in Highland Park.

A 27-year-old Glenview woman was arrested around 3:45 p.m. Dec. 8 and charged with driving with a suspended license following a traffic stop in the area of Green Bay Road and Woodlawn Avenue. She was also issued a citation for no insurance.

A 19-year-old Glenview man was issued citations for speeding and possession of cannabis and paraphernalia following a traffic stop around 9:15 p.m. Dec. 9 in the area of Dundee Road and Skokie Ridge Drive.

'APPLE CARE' SCAM ATTEMPT
A Happ Road resident reported on Dec. 3 that they had gotten a call from someone purporting to be a representative of Apple tech support. The caller claimed the resident's computer had been hacked. The resident responded that they don't even own an Apple computer. The scammer hung up.

CAR BURGLARY/CRIMINAL DAMAGE
Someone smashed the driver's side window of a car parked in the lot of the Walgreens, 1825 Willow Road, between 7:30 and 7:35 p.m. on Dec. 3 and stole a gym bag from inside.

UNLOCKED CAR BURGLARIZED
Someone stole a wallet from inside an unlocked car parked in the lot of Christian Heritage Academy, 315 Waukegan Road, between 7 and 8:30 p.m. on Dec. 5.

IDENTITY THEFT
A Longmeadow Road resident reported around 12:15 p.m. Dec. 6 that someone used their identity to open up an unauthorized natural gas utility account for an address the resident was not associated with.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

A 48-year-old Deerfield man was arrested around 9 a.m. on Dec. 6 and charged with driving with a suspended license following a traffic stop in the area of Willow Road and Lagoon Drive. Police also issued him citations for no valid safety test for commercial vehicle and improper display of registration.

INCIDENTS

HOME BURGLARY
A resident in the 4000 block of Fairway Drive was reading in her bedroom when she began to hear "knocking noises" around her house. The locked bedroom door was forced open, and a man the resident described as a 5 foot, 8 inch to 5 foot, 10 inch, 20-to 30-year-old Hispanic man with dark hair under a cap and facial stubble entered. When the burglar noticed the resident, he turned and ran out a read sliding door along with another male intruder. Cash and assorted items were reported missing.

TRAILER BURGLARY
Someone cut the padlock on a trailer and stole an unspecified number of tools from inside between 10:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Dec. 4 in the 800 block of Michigan Avenue, where the trailer had been left during work on a construction project.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

Jason E. Kaulas, 49, of the 900 block of 13th Street, Wilmette, was arrested around 1:30 a.m. Dec. 5 and charged with driving under the influence following a traffic stop at Lake Avenue and 17th Street. Police reported he was impaired and Kaulas refused to provide a breath sample before officers gave him a ride home.

Casander J. Pecson, 34, of the 5300 block of Main Street, Skokie, was arrested shortly after 10:30 a.m. Dec. 8 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and DUI with a breath alcohol concentration of 0.08 or greater. Officers were called to the area of Westmoreland Country Club for a report that Pecson was violating an employee in violation of an active order of protection. Police arrived and learned the order of protection did not apply outside of a home in Skokie and the person who had been bothering a staff member had left. Pecson then passed an officer who remained in the area while driving a "freshly stolen" golf cart home. Police reported Pecson provided a breath sample indicating he had nearly three times the legal limit of alcohol in his system. The country club did not wish to press charges for burglary or the theft of the golf cart.


WINNETKA

INCIDENTS

CAR BURGLARY
Someone burglarized an car in the 700 block of Cherry Street between 2:28 and 2:32 a.m. on Nov. 26, rummaging through its contents. Nothing was listed as stolen at the time of the report.

TREE REMOVAL SCAM
A resident in the 1200 block of Asbury Avenue reported on Dec. 9 that they had paid an unidentified person a $450 down payment for a tree removal on the morning of Dec. 5 but the person never returned as scheduled.

STOLEN CAR
A resident in the 900 block of Old Green Bay Road reported that someone stole a car that had been left unlocked with a key fob inside from their driveway. The car was later found undamaged in the area, with nothing reported stolen.

PACKAGE THEFT
Someone stole a package delivered by FedEx from the front porch of a home in the 1000 block of Oak Street for a loss of about $86.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

Tatyana Putrina, 57, of the 2200 block of North Enlund Drive, Palatine, was arrested around 10:45 a.m. Nov. 26 at the Winnetka Police Department and charged with identity theft in connection with an incident reported on Sept. 20 where someone stole a purse from a business in the 500 block of Chestnut Street.

A 20-year-old Elk Grove Village man was arrested around 2:30 p.m. Dec. 4 and charged with driving without a valid license following a traffic stop in the 800 block of Sheridan Road. He was also issued a ticket for speeding.

A 51-year-old Chicago man was arrested around 2:30 a.m. Dec. 8 and charged with driving with a suspended license following a traffic stop in the 1000 block of Sheridan Road. He was also issued citations for possession of cannabis, speeding and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.
