Juvenile Caught With Stolen Car; Beach House Burglarized: Blotter

Winnetka, Glencoe, Northfield Blotters: May 24-30

WINNETKA, IL — The following information comes from the Glencoe, Winnetka and Northfield police departments as a record of police activity and incidents reported to the police. Anyone arrested is innocent unless proven guilty. Criminal charges represent merely accusations by the state and are often dropped or reduced.

WINNETKA

INCIDENTS

BURGLARY
An employee at Lloyd Park, 799 Sheridan Rd., reported at 8:06 a.m. on May 21 that sometime after May 18 someone got into a storage garage and damaged a tractor and a boat before breaking into a beach house and stealing two laptop computers worth $1,000 while causing more than $1,000 worth of damage.

IDENTITY THEFT
A resident in the 600 block of Green Bay Road reported at 8:46 a.m. on May 21 that someone had made several unauthorized credit card purchases, stole several checks and tried to cash them without permission between May 8 and May 11.

THEFT
Someone stole an unlocked Trek bicycle worth $400 that had been let at the bike rack at Washburne School, 515 Hibbard Rd., sometime between 8:30 a.m. on May 18 and 11 a.m. on May 19.

THEFT
Someone stole an unlocked bicycle that had been left near the bridge entrance at the Elm Street Metra station between 6:55 and 7:15 a.m. on May 26. The bicycle was later found in the area.

THEFT OF LOST PROPERTY
A patron of a ride-hailing service reported at 1:18 p.m. on May 26 in the 800 block of Cherry Street reported that someone had stolen a iPhone and a case with credit cards inside that they had left in the back of their driver's vehicle.

ATTEMPTED BURGLARY
A resident in the 700 block of Oak Street reported at 10:27 a.m. on May 28 that someone had tried to break into their home between May 1 and May 18.

THEFT
An employee at a restaurant in the 800 block of Green Bay Road reported at 11:16 a.m. on May 28 that someone had stolen $1,250 worth of patio furniture and cushions from a rear seating area during the overnight hours of May 27 to 28.

ARRESTS

A 37-year-old Skokie woman was arrested at 11:58 a.m. on May 22 in the 800 block of Green Bay Road and charged with driving with a suspended driver's license. She was also ticketed for using a cell phone while driving.

Alex Matthew Bernardo, 18, of the 800 block of Chippewa Lane in Wilmette, was arrested at 12:40 p.m. on May 26 at the 7-Eleven, 88 Green Bay Rd., and charged with retail theft after police received a 911 call about a theft in progress.

A 33-year-old Waukegan man was arrested at 9:08 p.m. on May 27 and charged with driving without a valid license following a traffic stop in the 1200 block of Tower Road. He was also issued citations for not having a rear license plate light and possession of cannabis.

GLENCOE

INCIDENTS

THEFT
Someone stole a fountain worth between $500 and $10,000 from the backyard of a home in the 700 block of Greenleaf Avenue prior to 2:55 p.m. on May 23.

CAR BURGLARY
A resident of the 1100 block of Terrace Court reported at 3:22 a.m. on May 24 that someone had gotten into two unlocked cars parked in the driveway. It was not known if anything was missing at the time of the report.

CAR BURGLARY
A resident of the 1100 block of Terrace Court reported at 3:33 a.m. on May 24 that someone had gotten into an unlocked car parked in a driveway. Nothing was immediately reported missing.

CAR BURGLARY
Someone got into an unlocked car parked in the 400 block of Lincoln Avenue and stole a garage door opener that had been left inside.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

A juvenile got into two unlocked cars parked in the 1100 block of Terrace Court around 3 a.m. on May 24. A Jeep that had its keys inside was stolen but later recovered. Police have not identified an accomplice.

An 18-year-old Waukegan man was arrested at 10:48 p.m. on May 24 and charged with driving without a valid license following a traffic stop near the intersection of Sheridan and Maple Hill roads. He was also issued citations for driving with one working headlight and possession of cannabis.

NORTHFIELD

INCIDENTS

ATTEMPTED HOME BURGLARY
A resident in 2100 block of Northgate Avenue in Northfield reported at 8:30 p.m. on May 21 that they had heard a loud noise outside of their residence. A pane of glass on an exterior door was broken and possible pry marks were visible.

IDENTITY THEFT
An Old Willow Road resident reported on the evening of May 22 that someone had opened up unauthorized credit cards in their name.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE
A resident in the 100 block of South Happ Lane in Northfield reported at 9:02 a.m. on May 23 they they had found several scratches on the rear tailgate of a Honda CRV.

BURGLARY
A New Trier High School employee reported at 12:44 p.m. on May 24 that they discovered someone burglarized the school's storage facility at Meadow Park and stole a golf cart worth $300.

IDENTITY THEFT
A Longmeadow Road resident reported at 2:08 p.m. on May 25 that someone had recently opened an unauthorized bank account in his name.

CAR BURGLARY
A resident of Park City, Illinois reported at 6:44 p.m. that someone stole a wallet and cellphone from inside an unlocked work truck parked at New Trier High School's Northfield campus.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

A 27-year-old Chicago man was arrested at 5:43 p.m. on May 25 and charged with driving with a suspended driver's license following a traffic stop near the intersection of Bristol Road and Willow Road. He was also cited for using a cell phone while driving.
