Man Who Refused To Leave Business Gets Arrested: Blotters
School staff harassed; unwanted pizza; Wilmette teen faces drug felonies: Glencoe, Northfield, Winnetka blotter for April 18 to May 15

WINNETKA, IL — The following information comes from the Glencoe, Winnetka and Northfield police departments as a record of police activity and incidents reported to the police. Criminal charges represent merely accusations by the state and are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Anyone arrested is innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
WINNETKA
INCIDENTS
THEFTS
- Someone stole $200 in cash from a wallet left unattended at New Trier High School between 7 p.m. on April 4 and 11:46 a.m. on April 15.
- Someone took a locked bike from a fence in the 700 block of Elm Street between 7 p.m. on April 18 and 6 a.m. on April 19. The bike was later recovered in the area.
- Someone stole a bicycle wheel and and tools worth nearly $175 from a bike locked to the bike rack between 10:50 a.m. and 10:15 p.m. on April 18 in the 100 block of Wilson Street.
- A resident in the 100 block of Birch Street reported around 9:30 a.m. on April 21 that someone had stolen two bicycles that had been left unattended on a cul-de-sac.
- More than $5,000 worth of jewelry was stolen from a home in the 1500 block of Asbury Avenue between April 21 and May 2, police were told on May 2.
- Someone stole $30 worth of medication from a nurse's office in the 500 block of Glendale Avenue between April 17 and April 23, police were told on May 4.
- Someone stole an unattended cell phone left at Washburne School between 12:45 and 1 p.m. on May 1 for a loss of $600.

- A Ridge Avenue resident reported on the morning of April 16 that someone had used their identity to open up a fraudulent credit card and rack up nearly $750 in bills.
- Someone used the identity of a resident in the 500 block of Winnetka Avenue to open up a Comcast account and accrue charges of more than $1,300 between Sept. 21, 2018, and Jan. 16.
- Someone used the identity of a Hazel Lane resident between March 26 and April 5 to file a fraudulent tax return.
- A Green Bay Road resident reported on April 20 that someone had used their identity to obtain fraudulent checks sometime on April 11 and withdraw more than $5,000 from the resident's home equity line of credit.
- A Forest Glen Drive resident reported on April 30 that someone had used their credit card account information to make more than $272 worth of unauthorized purchases between 12:47 p.m. on March 13 and 6:52 p.m. on March 15.
- A Foxdale Avenue resident reported on May 2 that someone had made more than $272 worth of unauthorized credit card purchases using their account between March 13 and March 15.
- A Sheridan Road resident reported on May 10 that someone had used their identity to buy two airline tickets on May 8 without authorization for a loss of $700.
- Someone used the identity of a Myrtle Street resident to open an unauthorized PayPal account between April 13 and April 18, police were told on may 12.
CRIMINAL DAMAGE
- Someone caused $2,000 in damage to a front window of a restaurant in the first block of Green Bay Road between 11 a.m. on April 18 and 1:50 p.m. on April 22 using an unknown object.
- A village employee reported on April 29 that someone had cut a chain link fence to access a bicycle during the overnight hours of April 18 to April 19, causing $350 in damage.
- Someone caused more than $5,000 in damage to a boathouse in the 100 block of Sheridan Road between Feb. 9 and May 3 by spray painting graffiti inside and damaging the deck and lattice fencing, police were told on May 4.
- Four double-pane windows on a playhouse in a yard in the 100 block of Sheridan Road were damaged prior to May 4, causing $2,000 in repair bills.

SCAM ATTEMPT?
A resident contacted police to report they had been approached between 11 a.m. and noon on April 15 near the intersection of Green Bay Road and Elm Street by unidentified people claiming to work for the resident's car dealership. The purported workers offered to repair the convertible top on resident's car and asked to withdraw money from the bank for the deal, but they left while the resident was inside.
GIFT CARD SCAM
A Hamptondale Avenue resident reported that on the morning of April 27, they had paid $2,000 in gift cards to someone who had called claiming to be the police and demanding payment fictitious bond.
FORGERY
An employee of a business in the 800 block of Oak Street reported around 1 p.m. on May 2 that someone had stolen more than $5,000 between April 24 and May 1 after a check from a business account and making an unauthorized withdrawal.
BOUNCED CHECKS
An employee of a business in the 800 block of Oak Street reported around 1:30 p.m. on May 2 that someone had passed two bad checks between April 2 and April 4 for a total of $175.55.
ARRESTS/CITATIONS
A 45-year-old North Chicago man was arrested at 1:17 a.m. on April 18 in the 1100 block of Sheridan Road and charged with driving with a suspended driver's license and issued a speeding ticket.
A 31-year-old Chicago man was arrested at 1:21 a.m. on April 21 in the 600 block of Lincoln Avenue and charged with driving with a suspended license. He was also issued a citations for not having a valid registration and driving an uninsured motor vehicle.
Zofia Kret, 64, of the 3600 block of North Newland Avenue, Chicago, was arrested around 11:15 a.m. on April 26 at the Winnetka Police Department and charged with two counts of retail thefts in connection with an investigation into an earlier report of shoplifting from a business in the 500 block of Chestnut Street.
Alberto Gutierrez, 20, of the 3100 block of Nina Avenue, Wilmette, was arrested around 7:30 p.m. on April 24 in the 800 block of Pine Street and charged with possession of a controlled substance, delivery of cannabis, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and possession of cannabis, fireworks and a fraudulent identification card. He was also issued citations for possession of drug paraphernalia and texting while driving.
Colin D. Paul, 19, of the 1000 block of Marshall Road, Northbrook, was arrested around 3 a.m. on April 28 and charged with possession of a controlled substance following a traffic stop in the 1300 block of Willow Road. He was also issued citations for possession of cannabis, possession of drug paraphernalia and failure to dim headlights.
Christina M. Reese, 30, of the first block of Meadow Court, Schaumburg, was arrested around 6:15 a.m. on May 5 in the 1000 block of Cherry Street following a traffic stop. She was ticketed for speeding and taken into custody on an active arrest warrant from Macomb County connected to a charge of unlawful use of a credit card.
A 52-year-old Chicago woman was arrested shortly after 10 p.m. on May 9 in the 1300 block of Willow Road and charged with driving with a suspended license. She was also issued citations for speeding and driving without proof of insurance.
GLENCOE
INCIDENTS
IDENTITY THEFTS
- An Eastwood Road resident reported on the afternoon of April 29 that someone used 21,000 points from a Chase account and made an unspecified fraudulent charge on their American Express credit card.
- A Glencoe Drive resident reported on the evening of April 29 that someone had used their identity to open up a Sprint account and racked up a bill of nearly $1,300.
- Someone used the identity of a Sheridan Road resident to open an American Express credit card and unsuccessfully tried to make several charges. Two other attempts at opening credit cards were blocked.
- A Lake Street resident reported on the afternoon of May 14 that someone had unsuccessfully tried to open credit cards in their name at Lowe's and Nordstrom.
UNWANTED PIZZA
A Tudor Court resident reported on the night of May 2 that someone had repeatedly been trying to order several pizzas and have them delivered to the resident.
THEFT
Someone stole a pair of earrings worth more than $8,000 from a home in the 100 block of South Avenue, police were told shortly before noon on May 8.
CRIMINAL DAMAGE
Someone damaged the coin box used for parking in the 700 block of Green Bay Road sometime prior to 10 a.m. on May 11.
ARRESTS/CITATIONS
A 21-year-old Racine, Wisconsin, man was arrested at 4:16 p.m. on April 18 and charged with driving with a suspended driver's license, expired registration and no insurance following a traffic stop in the area of Dundee and Green Bay roads.
A 26-year-old Evanston man was arrested at 2:44 a.m. on April 19 and charged with driving with a suspended license and expired registration following a traffic stop in the area of Sheridan Road and South Avenue. He was also issued a citation for not having his driver's license with him.
A 30-year-old Milwaukee man was arrested at 10:15 a.m. on April 21 in the 1200 block of Sheridan Road and charged with no valid driver's license, cancelled registration and no insurance. He was also issued a citation for possession of drug paraphernalia.
A 65-year old Chicago woman was arrested around 9 p.m. on April 23 and charged with driving with a suspended license following a traffic stop in the area of Bluff and Dundee roads. She was also issued a citation for not having a driver's license with her and not having a rear license plate light.
.A 21-year-old Hazel Crest man and a 19-year-old Harrah, Oklahoma, woman were issued citations shortly after noon on April 24 for soliciting without a permit in the 600 block of Vernon Avenue.
A 28-year-old Buffalo Grove man was arrested at 9:30 a.m. on April 26 in the area of Green Bay Road and Lincoln Avenue and charged with driving with a suspended license and registration suspended due to lack of insurance. He was also issued citations for a defective windshield, unsafe equipment and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Jennifer Marie Jules, 36, of the 1500 block of Scott Avenue, Winnetka, was arrested around 4:30 p.m. on May 11 in the 300 block of Hazel Avenue and charged with driving under the influence of drugs, driving an uninsured motor vehicle and failure to provide information after striking an unoccupied vehicle.
A 47-year-old Glencoe man was issued a ticket for a dog bite around 10:15 a.m. on May 14 in the area of Jefferson and Vernon avenues.

INCIDENTS
SCAM ATTEMPT
An Arbor Lane resident reported on the afternoon of April 16 that someone had sent them an email demanding $790 with the threat that otherwise they would install a virus and pornography on their computer.
CAR BURGLARIES
- A resident in the 500 block of Sunset Ridge Road reported that someone burglarized their car around 1:30 p.m. on April 17.
- Someone burglarized a Nicor Gas truck in the 2200 block of Martin Lane between 1 and 2 p.m. on April 17.
- Two cars were burglarized in the 1700 block of Mount Pleasant Street during the overnight hours of April 26 to April 27.
SUSPICIOUS NEIGHBOR
On April 21, 2019 at 9:27 AM, Officers responded to a home on Winfield Drive after a homeowner reported seeing a suspicious man ring their doorbell several times in recent days. Police determined the man was a neighbor who had come to speak with the homeowner.
THEFT
A Prospect Heights woman reported that someone stole her wallet from a shopping cart in the Mariano's parking lot sometime around 8:30 p.m. on April 20.
CRIMINAL DAMAGE
Someone damaged a car parked in the 400 block of Edgewood Lane at some point in the several weeks prior to April 28, police were told.
PHONE HARASSMENT
An employee at New Trier High School's freshman campus reported around 1 p.m. on May 2 that they had been getting numerous unwanted calls from a former acquaintance. Police made contact with the caller and asked that they stop.
SCAM ATTEMPT
A Happ Road resident reported on the afternoon of May 7 that someone had called them up purporting to be a representative of Microsoft. The caller told the resident their bank account had been compromised and claimed they needed to transfer $18,000 into a new account using gift cards. The resident contacted their bank, which let them know there was no such fraudulent activity on the account.
IDENTITY THEFT
A Colonial Lane resident reported on May 7 that an unauthorized debit card had been issued in their name.
CRIMINAL DAMAGE
Someone scratched a car parked in the 200 block of Enid Lane between 8:30 and 9:30 a.m. on May 8.
SUSPICIOUS INCIDENTS
- A resident in the 600 block of Arbor Lane reported at 6:49 p.m. on May 8 that they had heard what sounded likes someone trying to open their front door before seeing a suspicious person in a blue car a short time later. Officers checked the area and spoke with neighbors, but nothing suspicious was found.
- Staff at the Chase Bank, 400 Central Ave., reported around 11:30 a.m. on May 9 that a man had come into the bank, completed a withdrawal and run out of the branch when the transaction was completed. Staff said another person came into the bank a short time later and inquired about the other man. The authenticity of the transaction was verified and police determined no crime took place.
ARRESTS/CITATIONS
A 26-year-old Chicago man was arrested for excessive speeding on April 23 after being pulled over in the 2400 block of Willow Road for going 62 mph in a 30 mph zone.
An 18-year-old Winnetka man was arrested at 4:20 p.m. on April 25 and charged with driving with a suspended license and cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident in the area of Winnetka and Happ roads.
Charles E. Whittenburg, 35, of the 15700 block of Ingleside Avenue, Dolton, was arrested around 5:45 a.m. on April 27 in the 300 block of Northfield Road and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. He was also issued a citation for improper parking in the roadway.
A 23-year-old Chicago man was arrested at 12:30 p.m. on April 28 and charged with driving with a suspended license and exired registration following a traffic stop in the area of Willow Road and Three Lake Drive.
A 42-year-old Highwood man was arrested around 8 a.m. on April 29 and charged with driving without a valid license and expired registration following a traffic stop in the area of Willow Road and Meadow Drive.
A 33-year-old Chicago man was issued citations for possession of cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia following a traffic stop in the area of Willow Road and the Edens Expressway around 11:30 a.m. on April 29.
Hunter M. Tickel, 28, of the 1100 block of West Morse Avenue, Chicago, was arrested around 8:30 a.m. on May 2 and charged with trespassing after refusing to leave Medline Industries at 3 Three Lakes Drive.
A 42-year-old Winnetka man was arrested for excessive speeding around 7:30 p.m. on May 9 in the 1600 block of Willow Road after police pulled him over for going 57 mph in a 30 mph zone.
A 47-year-old Santa Monica, California, man was arrested around 7:30 a.m. on May 10 and charged with excessive speeding in the 500 block of West Frontage Road after police puled him over for driving 62 mph in a 35 mph zone.
