Nearly $200,000 Stolen From Accounts; DUI After Crash: Blotters

Incidents and arrests from the Glencoe, Northfield and Winnetka police blotter from Nov. 7 - Nov. 13

WINNETKA, IL — The following information comes from the Glencoe, Winnetka and Northfield police departments as a record of police activity and incidents reported to the police. Criminal charges represent merely accusations by the state and are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Anyone arrested is innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.


WINNETKA

INCIDENTS

IDENTITY THEFT
An Essex Road resident reported that someone had used their personal information between Oct. 20 and Nov. 5 to obtain a fraudulent driver's license and try to make a purchase at an out-of-state Nordstrom store.

THEFT
Staff at an auto repair business in the 1000 block of Tower Court reported that someone stole various auto parts between 1 p.m. on Nov. 6 and noon on Nov. 8 worth nearly $900.

CAR BURGLARY
Someone broke into a car parked at a park district facility in the 400 block of Hibbard Road by smashing a rear passenger side window between 2:20 and 4 p.m. on Nov. 8. A purse containing a book was reported stolen for a loss of $310.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE
A resident in the 1400 block of Asbury Avenue reported that someone had damaged the lock and doorknob of their home between 2:30 p.m. on Nov. 8 and 9 a.m. on Nov. 9 for a loss of $75.

CAR BURGLARY
Someone shattered the back passenger window of a vehicle parked in the 500 block of Green Bay Road between noon and 1:15 p.m. on Nov. 9, stealing a backpack with headphones, cash and other items inside for a loss of $380.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE
Someone used an unknown object to damage the driver's side front window of a vehicle parked in the 600 block of Pine Street between 1:45 and 3:45 p.m. on Nov. 9.

ARRESTS

Alicia Johnson-Medrano, 20, of the 1600 block of West Apache Drive in Lockport, was arrested shortly before 8 p.m. on Nov. 9 at the Winnetka Police Department in connection with a Winnetka warrant after she was involved in a traffic related incident involving Joliet police.

A 31-year-old Chicago man was arrested around 1:45 p.m. on Nov. 10 in the 1100 block of Willow Road and charged with driving without a valid license following an investigation into a traffic crash. He was also issued a citation for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

A 23-year-old Skokie man was arrested around 10:15 p.m. on Nov. 10 in the 600 block of Cherry Street and charged with driving without a valid license. He was also cited for driving a vehicle with its registration suspended due to a lack of insurance.


GLENCOE

INCIDENTS

DECEPTIVE PRACTICES
A resident in the 100 block of Green Bay Road reported around 12:45 p.m. on Nov. 8 that someone had wrote a bad check for $565 to pay for an item at a garage sale. Police referred the resident to the Cook County State's Attorney's Office's program for bounced checks.

IDENTITY THEFT
A Wentworth Avenue resident reported around 3 pm. on Nov. 9 that someone had accessed their bank accounts and their child's bank accounts and stolen nearly $200,000. The resident also received a debit card in the mail from Charles Schwab despite not having an account with the bank. The resident's bank reimbursed the unauthorized withdrawal.

THEFT
Someone stole a $2,000 bench from a porch in the 600 block of Drexel Avenue sometime prior to 1 p.m. on Nov. 12.

SHOPLIFTING
Unidentified thieves entered the Binny's liquor store in the first block of Green Bay Road and fled after stealing bottles of alcohol valued at about $400.

ARRESTS

A 24-year-old Gary, Indiana man was arrested around 9:15 p.m. on Nov. 7 in the area of Green Bay Road and Scott Avenue and charged with driving while his license was suspended.

A 21-year-old Gurnee woman was arrested around 11 p.m. on Nov. 8 in the area of Hazel Avenue and Sheridan Road and charged with failure to surrender a suspended registration. She was also cited for failure to properly secure a child under age 8 and operating an uninsured motor vehicle. Two passengers, a 23-year-old Zion man and a 21-year-old Gurnee man, were issued citations for possession of cannabis.

A 23-year-old Waukegan man was arrested around 4:15 a.m. on Nov. 10 in the area of Park Avenue and Sheridan Road and charged with driving without a valid license and expired registration. He was also ticketed for illegal transportation of an open container of alcohol.

Angel F. Farfan, 23, of the 1600 block of Whitney Street, Waukegan, was arrested around 6:30 a.m. on Nov. 10 in the 1200 block of Sheridan Road and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving under the influence of alcohol with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.08 or greater and operating an uninsured motor vehicle. He was also issued citations for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and improper lane usage after he reported he had been the passenger in a one-car crash into some bushes.

A 24-year-old Tacoma, Washington man was arrested around 6:30 a.m. on Nov. 11 in the area of Green Bay and Maple Hill road and charged with aggravated speeding for driving 26 to 34 mph above the limit.

Jung K. Kim, 44, of the 7700 block of West 83rd Street, Bridgeview, was arrested around 1:15 a.m. on Nov. 12 in the 700 block of Dundee Road and charged with aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol due to previous DUI convictions, felony driving with a license suspended for second or subsequent DUI, driving with a suspended license and DUI. He was also issued citations for improper lane usage and failure to signal when required.

A 19-year-old Chicago man was arrested around midnight on Nov. 14 in the area of Dundee Road and the Edens Expressway and charged with operating an uninsured vehicle. He was also issued citations for possession of cannabis and speeding.

A 21-year-old Wilmette woman was arrested shortly after 1:30 a.m. on Nov. 14 in the area of Hawthorn Avenue and Sheridan Road and charged with operating an uninsured vehicle. She was also issued citations for possession of cannabis and improper lane usage.

NORTHFIELD

INCIDENTS

SUSPICIOUS PERSON
A resident in the 300 block of Sunset Drive reported on Nov. 6 that a woman had arrived at his front door around noon on Nov. 1 and asked for directions to Happ Road. Police initiated a special watch in the area at the resident's request.

THEFT
A shopper at a pharmacy in the 1800 block of Willow Road reported that someone stole their purse from inside a shopping cart between 4 and 4:30 p.m. on Nov. 6.

SUSPICIOUS PERSON
A resident of the 600 block of Happ Road reported seeing several unidentified men with flashlights around 10 p.m. on Nov. 7. Officers checked the area but did not find anyone.

DISPUTES

  • An employee of a grocery store in the 1800 block of Willow Road reported around 5 a.m. on Nov. 8 that a co-worker had bumped into him with a floor-buffing machine. Officers determined the incident was not criminal in nature after speaking with the employee operating the buffing machine and suggested both employees speak with their supervisors.
  • A resident in the first block of Meadowood Lane reported shortly after 9 a.m. on Nov. 8 that they had a dispute with a contractor working in the area related to parkway damage caused by construction vehicles. Officers spoke with a construction company representative and the concerned resident and determined that the company had arranged to make repairs to the parkway.

FRAUD
A representative of a bank in the 200 block of Waukegan Road contacted police on the afternoon of Nov. 9 to report than an elderly customer may have been defrauded following requests for several large cash withdrawals for overseas wire transfers. Officers determined the customer had been the victim of a fraud attempt and suggested cancelling pending wire transfers.

ARRESTS

Caraleen E. Boyd, 36, of the 300 block of Sunset Drive, Northfield, was arrested around 10:45 p.. on Nov. 8 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol following a traffic stop in the 300 block of Sunset Drive. Officers were responding to a 911 call from a motorist who was following a driver thought to be impaired.

A 22-year-old Chicago man was arrested around 7 p.m. on Nov. 11 following a traffic stop in the area of Willow Road and Whittier Lane charged with misdemeanor excessive speeding for driving 56 in a 30 mph zone, possession of cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia.
