New Trier Named One of Top High Schools in Cook County: Magazine
The Winnetka school was only behind Proviso Math and Science Academy in Chicago magazine's rankings.
WINNETKA, IL — New Trier High School was named to Chicago magazine's list of the best suburban high schools in Cook County, which was released this week.
The school was ranked at No. 2, behind only Proviso Math and Science Academy in Forest Park. Northfield's Middlefork Primary School took the stop spot among elementary schools.
Teaming up with nonprofit group RTI International, Chicago magazine created the criteria for its best of lists—divided by county and school level—based on test scores, attendance, spending per student, graduation rates (for the high schools) and other data taken from the Illinois Board of Education. The publication hasn't done this type of school analysis and ranking since 2012.

Here's a quick breakdown of the numbers that helped New Trier earn its rank:
New Trier High School (No. 2)
- Spending per student: $13,829
- Freshmen meeting or exceeding state standards: 98 percent
- Graduation rate: 99 percent
This distinction adds another feather for New Trier's cap this year. The school also landed on the U.S. News & World Report's annual best high schools ranking (No. 22 in the state; No. 642 in the country), as well as Newsweek's national list of best public schools (No. 2 in the state; No. 17 in the country).
