New Trier Ranked 22nd Best High School in State on U.S. News 2016 List

The school also was rated the 642nd best in the country for 2016.

WINNETKA, IL—New Trier Township High School was named one of the top 20 best high schools in the state, according to the annual U.S. News & World Report Best High Schools rankings. The school was No. 22 on the 2016 list, which was released Monday, April 18.

How Other North Shore Schools Ranked:

Overall, the high school was 642nd in the country on the magazine's 2016 list.

New Trier's ranking this year is behind that of rival Evanston Township High School, which was No. 13 in the state and rated 452nd in the country.

Fourteen other Illinois high schools cracked the top 500. The No. 1 high school in the U.S. rankings is the School for the Talented and Gifted in Dallas, Texas.

Nine Chicago high schools rank in the top 25 for Illinois, along with 16 suburban high schools. The No. 1 high school in the state is Northside College Prep, ranked 39th in the United States, followed closely by Walter Payton College Prep, ranked 41st in the country.

The highest ranked suburban school is Stevenson High School in Lincolnshire, ranked 166th in the nation.

"The U.S. News rankings include data on more than 21,000 public high schools in 50 states and the District of Columbia," states U.S. News & World Report. "Schools were awarded gold, silver or bronze medals based on their performance on state assessments, their graduation rates and how well they prepare students for college."

The report includes information about curriculum, test scores and student demographics
