One Winnetka Revisions To Be Reviewed Before Recommendation

3 boards and commissions will take a look at the proposed changes to the long-discussed residential development.

WINNETKA, IL — The developer has presented changed to the proposed One Winnetka residential project considered for the corner of Lincoln Avenue and Elm Place, and the Winnetka Village Council voted unanimously Tuesday to send those modifications to the village three boards that review new buildings.

Winnetka's design review board, plan commission and zoning review board will take a look at the changes, which include moving the building about eight feet to the east while replacing proposed parking garages with an extra level of underground parking.

According to a letter from developer David Trandel, managing partner of SB One Winnetka, LLC, the changes are aimed at reducing the cost of the project while keeping the benefits.

The letter describes the new proposal as mutually beneficial, as it will cut the project's "alarmingly out of proportion" costs while, at the same time, "shortening the length of the construction period," reducing the impact on the community.

Residents had mixed reaction to the plan, which follows years of discussing the development, according to Daily North Shore. Some argued other communities are overtaking Winnetka's development, others expressed concern the project just keeps getting worse for the public.

President Chris Rintz said the next time the issue comes before the council, it will not punt it back to the village's review boards and commissions.

"You have to understand you have one shot," he told Trandel.
