Painting Worth More Than $10,000 Reported Stolen: Blotter

GLENCOE, IL — The following information comes from the Glencoe, Winnetka and Northfield police departments as a record of police activity and incidents reported to the police. Anyone arrested is innocent unless proven guilty. Criminal charges represent merely accusations by the state and are often dropped or reduced.

INCIDENTS
ART THEFT
Someone "gained control" over a painting worth an estimated $10,000 belonging to a resident of the 800 block of Greenleaf Avenue between October 2016 and March 21. Police are pursuing a few leads and declined to release the type of painting or how it may have been taken due to the active investigation.

ELECTRONIC HARASSMENT
Someone pretended to be the friend of a resident of Greenwood Avenue and sent several harassing messages via Instagram and FaceTime, police were told on the afternoon of March 23.
THEFT
Someone stole a 2018 Mercedes Benz from a car dealership in the 1600 block of Frontage Road, sometime between March 21 and March 24, police were told.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS
A 22-year-old Chicago woman was ticketed for having only one working headlight and possession of under 10 grams of cannabis around 9 p.m. on March 22 following a traffic stop near the intersection of Dundee Road and the Edens Expressway.
An 18-year-old Chicago man was pulled over in the 100 block of Glenwood Avenue around 12:30 a.m. on March 23 and issued citations for not having a rear license plate light, having a noisy muffler, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of under 2.5 grams of cannabis.
Felix M. Oritz, 30, of the 3500 block of North Spritz Avenue in Waukegan, was arrested at 12:39 a.m. on March 24 near the intersection of Green Bay Road and Park Avenue and charged with driving under the influence and felony driving with a revoked license. He was also ticketed for illegal transportation of alcohol and improper parking on the roadway. Police said he was stopped at a traffic signal and just sat at the intersection as the light turned green.
A 29-year-old Evanston woman was arrested shortly before 4 p.m. on March 24 and charged with driving an uninsured vehicle without a license following a traffic stop on Green Bay Road and Woodlawn.
Maurice D. Sweet, 55, of the 2600 block of North 49th Street in Milwaukee, was arrested shortly before 10:30 p.m. on March 24 in the 1100 block of Sheridan Road and charged with driving under the influence. He was also issued citation for illegal transportation of alcohol, unsafe tires and no rear registration plate light.
A 32-year-old Milwaukee man was arrested at 8:17 a.m. on March 25 and charged with driving with a suspended registration and no insurance following a traffic stop in the 1900 block of Frontage Road.
A 27-year-old Chicago man was arrested at 11:06 a.m. on March 25 and charged with driving without a valid license, insurance. He was also ticketed for improper use of registration.
WINNETKA
INCIDENTS
IDENTITY THEFT
A resident in the 100 block of Bertling Lane reported on March 20 that someone used their credit card account to make an unauthorized purchase for a loss of about $60.
THEFT
A resident of the 500 block of Chestnut Street discovered that someone had stolen the contents of a FedEx package that had been stolen from a Winnetka post office box for a loss of $650.
IDENTITY THEFT
A resident of the 700 block of Rosewood Avenue reported on March 24 that someone had used their personal identifiers to open up several checking and savings accounts sometime between March 7 and 8.
THEFT
A resident of the 300 block of Sheridan Road reported on March 25 that someone had stolen $3,000 in cash from their home between 4:12 and 4:16 p.m.
NORTHFIELD
INCIDENTS
HOME BURGLARY
A resident in the 200 block of Lagoon Drive reported on March 22 that that someone had entered a possibly unlocked home between March 4 and March 20 and stole about $500 worth of property. Police are investigating.
ARRESTS
A 24-year-old Chicago man was pulled over around at 11:47 p.m. on March 22 and charged with speeding 58 mph in a 30 mph zone in the area of Willow and Sunset Ridge roads.
A 20-year-old Evanston man was arrested at 3:52 a.m. on March 23 following a traffic stop in the area of Willow and Sunset Ridge roads and charged with excessive speeding for driving 57 mph in a 30 mph zone.
