Peet's Coffee and Tea Sued for Overcharging Customers
A Winnetka resident filed a class action lawsuit saying the coffee roaster has intentionally overcharged customers for press pot coffee.
A Winnetka man is suing Peet’s Coffee and Tea, claiming the California-based coffee chain overcharges for press pot coffee by labeling that is based on the size of the brewing device rather than the actual amount of coffee.
Robert Garrett filed the class action lawsuit in Cook County on Friday, according to DNAinfo.com Chicago.

Press pot coffee, also known as French press, is sold in 12-or 32-ounce options at Peet’s, but the 32-ounce option comes in 24-ounce cups, thus overcharging the customer according to the lawsuit.
“Customers are actually served at least 25 percent less liquid volume than they believe they received,” said Dan Voelker, Garrett’s attorney. “While the signage represents that the liquid volume served is 12 and 32 ounces, what the signage actually refers to is the size of the brewing equipment, the narrow glass cylindrical beaker where the coarse ground coffee is placed,”

The lawsuit seeks to award compensation to anyone within its class and to have Peet’s change the way its represents the volume of its press pot coffee.
